Hi everyone!!!  Another unusual challenge from me.
I have two friends who will be totally alone on Christmas day, their ex's have the kids etc.  They have nothing to look forward to and expect to end the day in tears...
My challenge you say?
Write a poem for them to cheer them up, to remind them how special Christmas is, not just cos Christ was born, but to celebrate life, love, family, make resolutions, be grateful for life and breath and what they do have it.  Must be very cheery cos I swear these two are gonna be hard to please...
If interested please post in this forum..

You wanted cheer? Here's a quickie...(I'm @ school)
There is green everywhere,
everywhere you look.
Streets and cars,
and maybe even books.

You can find cheer is contagious,
around this time o' year.
You can find happiness, even in here.

So take that frown  ,
turn it upside-down
and welcome that smile.

That was great hon, but I was thinking of something beautiful and inspiring I could print out on the computer and make it beautiful and send to them on Christmas Eve so they know they really aren't alone over Christmas...
I realise it was a quickie and you were at school so thanks anyways..

Hi Isis ~ Don't know if you could use something like this or not...guess I can't get in the Christmas mode till after Thanksgiving...but I tried... Bonnie

Smoke rises from the chimneys
On this crisp, clear winter’s night,
As the moon sends down its glistening beams,
And the stars are twinkling bright.
My heart just fills with wonder,
As I think of the beauty ‘round me,
Perfect pines dressed in white,
A most calming sight to see.
Standing there as the snowflakes fall,
I reflect on days gone by,
At first I felt quite saddened,
But soon was lifted high.
As I thought of all the wonder,
I see in my children’s eyes,
As they run to me just breathless
And I answer their little whys.
In thoughts I feel their precious hugs,
And it warms me to the core,
I think of the sparkle in their eyes,
And it warms me even more.
Soon I realize all I’ve got,
All the love of family and friends,
And the hearts of those little children,
Whose love for me never ends.
My world looks so much brighter,
It’s now filled with the children’s glow,
And the very next time we get a chance
We’ll make angels in the snow.

I have been in this situation. And to be honest, the best thing to do is find someone in similar situations and get together. Do something that is totally out of the ordinary. Go to a movie (most theaters are open). Rent a couple of movies that you can't watch when the kids are around. Read... visit a nursing home....offer to serve food at a shelter for homeless people. Offer to help a friend in the kitchen so she can spend time with her family...

there are lots of ideas..the best one? Don't wallow!!!

BSC that is beautiful I will certainly keep a copy of that poem on hand for my two friends.
Balladeer I'm off to check your contribution shortly..
Sharon, I know to do these things and I do at times, it is convincing them, they are alone, and I know they will be feeling downright sorry for themselves so that is why I wanted an inspirational poem to get them out of the funk, so then they can perhaps do as you suggested.  Great ideas - I agree totally.
Thanks
Isis

Balladeer that poem is so precious I love it!  A wonderful reminder for us all.  Damn it, it should be made into a children's Xmas book...

I read your poem 'Deer, and as no one would see a comment there I'll tell you here it's the most beautiful Chrissy poem I have read in a long time.

Isis I'll give it a go. An Aussie Chrissy perhaps? I'll get my friend Kevin, who writes humourous stuff to see what he can do too.

Lisa, I don't know if this meets your needs but here ya go anyway

Christmas Morning

Christmas morning
new day dawning
hope is forming
in my heart

All my troubles
burst like bubbles
to think of others
I will start

Life confusing
not amusing
still I'm choosing
to stand apart

Make the Christmas
fulfill my wishes
to share and witness
my pain depart

Not so lonely
when I'm only
sharing boldly
love impart

Find a family
who will need me
set away misery
learn from art

Use my sorrow
to build tomorrow
beg steal or borrow
a joyful heart

Christmas morning
new days dawning
I'll heed warning
carefree, depart.

Christmas Season

Christmas Season,
does have meaning,
though some would say it not,
But I'll tell you a few reasons,
for this season, and you will find
Your saught,
Christmas is a season,
To share with those you love,
Doesn't matter the gifts,
But most often the words will
touch the heart.
Christmas is a season to smile,
In knowing of God's beauty all around
What you have, and forgetting what you
can get,
Christmas is a time of rejoicing,
singing with your children,
Letting them know how much you care,
Christmas God's gift to us
to tell of glory's near and far
all around the world,
Lights sparkling, twinkling, all colors
of the rainbow that sends us promises of
tomorrow's.
A time to live and breath the
essence of the winds,
A time to hug and be hugged back
with just a newborn friend,
So many reasons to delight,
so come along and sing tonight
and rejoice on Christmas morn.

Laughing With Santa

Well now,
Beer's the thing,  you see,
on Christmas Eve,
when Santa stomps
around the tree.
He will definitely stop
and shake your hand,
chuckle some
and swig that brew
then swear to you
it was the best in the land.
He'll rock right back,
and plop right down,
and say,
"how 'bout another…
one or two."
His cheeks will glow,
and then when Rudolph say's
it's time to go,
he'll yell out loud,
"a lot You know!"
Now Santa's not a drinkin' man,
at least Mrs. Claus thinks that's so,
but sharing beer with lonely one's,
certainly spreads Christmas cheer.
So sink some beer
in the old ice chest
and set it by the tree,
and when Santa comes,
give him one,
you'll both laugh in glee.
And on that day,
after the eve
when everyone else is having fun,
sleep away your emptiness,
laughing with Santa,
as you chug-a-lug some.

Hi Isis,
Best wishes and my prayers to both of your friends, I hope that this Christmas will be special to them in a new way... here is my contribution if it helps!

The Christmas Star

Alone on this, most holy night
amid the holiday delight,
a single star is shining bright.

As we, who hope to do what’s right
ignore the helpless in their plight
alone on this, most holy night.

God sends his love and all his might,
for those who live in urban blight.
A single star is shining bright,

providing peace and hope, despite,
the hunger and despair they fight,
alone on this, most holy night.

Although no presents to excite,
or Christmas trees adorned with light,
a single star is shining bright.

The spirit soars, and hearts ignite,
to witness, such a brilliant sight,
Alone on this, most holy night,
a single star is shining bright.

Hiya girl   I finally had some time and hope it is what you are looking for. If not...just let me know and I'll write you one that make ya pee from laughing !

Life often is a mystery
To all of us to make us see
Our path is paved with good and bad
Sometimes it's happy, sometimes sad

Yet when expected least of all
And you think now you'll really fall
A friend will reach out from afar
And guide you like a shining star

Just look up at the sky and see
There are some star lights there for thee
To brighten up your gloominess
And wrap you in a some lovingness

Not you and just your Christmas tree
There's more than loneliness to see
Look up and feel the stars embrace
And let a smile brighten your face

So stranger friend give me your smile
And while you walk another mile
You'll know you're not alone out there
There are many of us who care

Please look upon your tree this year
Filled with Christmas joy and cheer
And realise the lights in there
Are Christmas lights from those who care

Merry Christmas
