ok, I have seen this done and loved the results. So let's give it a try please. Here is the beginning, help me finish by adding your own verse.

When you sit alone and your mind begins to wander,
As a blade being honed, you begin to critically ponder.
A line here.Maybe one more word there.
Oh, that's too much, why do I care ??
How can I paint this word, what "color" should I use ??
Oh the pains of poetry in progress, where oh where is my muse ??

OK, your turn, go where ever the peom takes you, even change the subject if you want, after all, if one poet can make a beautiful piece of mind teasing art, imagine what several can do !!!

Roaming in the corridors of my mind,
I wait patiently for her, my muse,
until, a flickering light in the darkness,
strains of melody, awakens the deafness,
and I am alive with color, with words
that fly from my fingers on wings,
she is my wild dreams, my intuition,
she plants the seeds of my imagination.

Sitting alone in the recesses
Of my imagination
I wait for the spirit
Who sets my mind in motion
As she appears,
My fingers start to move
Over my paper as the words appear
In my mind, a poem forms

Thank you SWC, very nice, I see alot of promise for this one.Hey, does anyone else find it interresting that we refer to our Muse as "she" ??? Hmmmm, I think it may be because females are usually the ones who freely express their emotions. ( I did say USUALLY ) But I have read spine tingling poems written by men, So we need a man to respond to this so we can see what he calls his Muse, male or female.

okay you asked for it so here goes from a male perspective

Reaching out she grabs my hand
        helping me express the feelings
inside my head, heart and soul.

        She gives me release,
        from the grief, the guilt,
        the hurt, sorrow and sadness
        that I see and feel.

        She makes me glad
        that I am alive
        and the life I live
        is devoted to her.

Ah -Ha, Great, again with the she thing. Does anyone have any thoughts about all ( so far ) have referred to our muse as a She? I do so appreciate all of you helping along in the "birth" of this poem. I think it will be an inspiring piece once we get some more insight. It is now, but the more you know....

Where's your muse? that's what you ask,
Just be amused with your task.
Look for the muse under the table,
or on your roof, if your able,
maybe she's hiding in the fridge,
or in a rabbit hole, (for that you'll need to dig)
Did you take a peek underneath the bed,
Or better yet, look in your head.

Hi Gidget7,
Here's what the dictionary says, in answer to your question.

Muse (plural Muses) noun
goddess of art:  in Greek mythology, one of the nine daughters of Zeus and Mnemosyne, goddess of memory. The Muses inspired and presided over the different creative arts.  They are Calliope (the muse of epic poetry), Clio (history), Erato (love poetry), Euterpe (lyric poetry), Melpomene (tragedy), Polyhymnia (sacred song), Terpsichore (dance), Thalia (comedy), and Urania (astronomy).

Well, Gidget, there's your answer! All the muses are girls because they are all daughters!
