Please add to this as you see fit...

List 1a: Euphemisms for death

1. The big sleep
2. Permanent vacation
3. The Horizontal slide
4. Pushing up daisies
5. Hard-core relaxation

Any more?

Just a suggestion :-)

Kicking the bucket.
Going to see your Maker.
Passing on/over
Bite the dust.
Bought the farm.

Genea, sure we could liven things up (pardon the pun...) How about similes?

List 1b. As blank as a blank...

1. Red as a rose
2. Dumb as an ox
3. Stunned as me arse (Newfanese)
4. Sly as a fox

Any more?

Lost as a poet.
True as a broken promise.
Irresistable as imperfection.
Warm as the night.
Umpredictable as silence.

Help..

Loyal as a dog.
Dark as the night.
Deep as the ocean.
Blue as the sky.
Meek as rabbits.
Quiet as a mouse.

Are we looking for any simile, or just cliches?

Oh, and here are some more:
Happy as a clam (?).
Sweet as sugar.
Easy as pie.
Hot as hell.
Cold as ice.

Dumb as a box of rocks
Hot as a firecracker
Weak as a kitten
Smart as a whip (how smart can that be?)
Skittish as a cat in a room full of rocking chairs.
Lies like a rug.

I like the skittish as a cat in a room full of rocking chairs, but what about kittens being weak?

A Simile is as easy as Pie, but a Metaphor is a Piece of Cake

lessee - Are we contributing material for future poems? I'll assume that's the case and try to keep my list semi-poetic:

Dying

Walking through the door
Going toward the light
At peace once more
Safe from darkest night
Resting in His arms
Standing by His side
Safe from all harm
A final wish Goodbye

Similes

As lonesome as the zephyr's cry
As tender as a heart's first love
As gentle as lover's sigh
As strong as a Mother's bond
As cold as a betraying word
As hot as passion's need
As high as a soaring spirit
As low as the wind's lonesome moan

Gone to feed some worms
Quit smoking for the last time

Sharp as a mother-in-law's tongue
Greasy as cheap french fries
Relaxed as a sleeping cat
Happy as a kid with his first bike

Hey Nan, your a teacher, right? Your quote "A Simile is as easy as Pie," I do believe is a metaphor (hehehehe).

I thought a simile was a comparison using like or as and a metaphor is a comparison without like or as. Then wouldn't Nan be right? Just wondering>
