It Came to Me
By Larry Chadwick

I walked up to your casket,
And you were not there.
So I stood and waited,
Until I sensed your presence in the air.

It came first at the sound of a child,
Who laughed as she played a game.
As I paused to reflect about you,
I knew things wouldn’t be the same.

Further signs began to appear,
They came to me one by one.
The difference you made in my life,
All my memories and our fun.

The students lives you touched,
Each day by what you would do.
How they have new found strength,
That is drawn from having known you.

Signs come to me from nature so abundantly,
The setting of the sun when the day is done.
It’s the wind that whispers through the chimes,
And the squirrels that play when spring is begun.

And when I sit with your brother,
And together we do reminisce,
We draw our strength from you,
And there is great satisfaction in knowing this.

dear Larry...

I feel like my head is a ball of twine right now. I wish I could touch you...because words won't do. I can only pray it's enough you know that we are here, listening...

grief is a difficult road, and I offer my hand. My heart aches with you. Cyberspace seems cold, but hey, touch any spot on the screen and know my hand reaches back...

love you, m'friend.

Karen,
Somehow I am not conveying the truth to you. This place has been more than you describe to me. I have truly experienced much love, strength and support from these blue walls. You have been a large part of that. All these things in this poem happened and impacted me just that way. They aren't just words they are experience that means so much. Bless you dear friend! Thanks.

Larry...my dear brother....It is so good to see you back here again.  I had just mentioned to David today that I was going to email you b/c I hadn't seen you here.

The poem is beautiful and I am so happy that we are able to provide you with so much support.

Today I had a CT scan and I had to take prednisone b/c I am allergic to the dye they use...thats why I am still awake....Prednisone is a stimulant and I probably won't sleep much tonight.

On Wednesday, I get to discuss the results of the scan with my oncologist and I am very very scared.  I have been telling everyone that the tumor is gone because it feels like its gone...to me.  I have no more symptoms...but, of course that doesn't mean its totally gone.....

Sorry to bore you with that...I am just all juiced up with prednisone right now...........and so very happy to see you back here again.

~ many many welcome back hugs

Lyra,
Don't make me set ground rules... You are not allowed apologies for imagined boredom. Please understand that I am genuinely interested in your well being. Even when you're medicated! You have my number and I carry my phone. Courage dear friend. I am anxious to hear the outcome and pray all is well. Peace to you, dear friend.

Larry darling boy this dear friend is utterly utterly lovely, your love and Ginger’s angels breath lie over this as a web of sunlight lie on a sun dappled wood. I think you’re an awesome writer, your love for your daughter is always there.

I hope that maybe you can feel my hand reaching out to you in love and camaraderie, I’m there if you ever need me. Grief over such a personal loss cannot be assuaged by mere words, but please know each of my words carries my fondest love to you. Take care my friend, you really are loved by us all.

And this is a truly exceptional poem from you

Love and warm stuff

Thy coolness and they balm
Let sense be dumb let flesh retire
Speak through the eathquake wind and fire

your title is so appropriate..and so you pass the wisdom of your heart on to us.

I don't know how to describe how these words of yours tug at my heart strings so you're going to have to go with me on this.
I get misty and yet I get strengthened!

(BIG HUGGGSSSSSSS) Oh Larry, whatever you do, always hang onto those happy memories, for we will always remember Ginger, just as I know all those lucky students who had her will always be blessed to have an angel teach them and will grow and be inspired by the love and wisdom she gave them all! (sad sigh) My thoughts and prayers are with you as always, sweet friend, God Bless You, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Larry, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

You always find a way to encircle life's challenges with warm hugs and gentle smiles. The strong spice of life in Ginger must have been much like yours. She will not be forgotten. Tender warm hugs to you, your son, to Nancy Lee and the entire family. You are an inspirational tower of strength to those of us who often feel weak and powerless.
