between the gutter & the stars

0 posted 2002-06-02 11:45 PM

this is about those times in your life, when you turn on the radio or fav CD and the song that comes out is just right... and for that 3 minutes (give or take) you reach a harmony with life...

*when the music applies*

Jewel
"When you're standing in deep water
and you're bailing yourself out with a straw.
When you're drowning in deep water
and you wake up making love to the wall..."
        -cold december nights that smell like pints
         of ice cream and empty pizza boxes. wet,
         pillowcases and monika's face behind my
         eyelids.

Everclear
"Father of mine
Tell me how do you sleep?
With the children you abandoned
and the wife i saw you beat?"
        -frustrated knuckles bruising and cracking
         my ribs; foreheads roughly kissing the
         walls and bedposts; hollow voices and
         soggy apologies...when the morning reveals
         the damage already done.

Beethoven
"The Fur Elise"
        -i hear your fingers over the phone as they
         glide across the black and white. my
         vision starts to drown and we play in
         unison through the receiver.
         i adore you Somer.

Less Than Jake
"That same old crowd that drags me down;
another day in a Boring Town.
That same old crowd that brings me down;
a boring life in a Boring Town."
         -taking in the skyline from my exciting
          backyard vantage, the sun smiles its
          burning smile; i sigh and turn away. the
          cars suddenly apper and move fast, things
          coming to life and dying in the blink of
          my eye. and i missed it.the ice in my
          cola melts, the world spins a little,
          and my death creeps slowly closer.

The Eagles
"How they dance in the courtyard
sweet summer sweat.
Some dance to remember...
Some dance to forget.
...Ready a room at the Hotel California.
Anytime of year.
You can find it here."
          -the martinis are dry but never run dry;
           the palms are still, the pool is right.
           the sweat is beading,
           the smiles are soothing
           the band plays on in my private
           paradise.
           i'll get there one day...

Sotly let your eyelids collapse
And hear the beating of your heart;
The pulse beneath your temples thrums.
The melody of a paradise...
The rhythm of your reality...
the music of your life.

"The soul is oftentimes a battlefield where reason and judgement wage war on passion and appetite."

This midnitesun welcomes  you, MidnightSon. Music soothes the savage beasts, and also soothes poets. I often dream of Hotel California. Even though I grew up there and left many times for greener pastures, my dreams often take me back to Will Rogers State Beach (Santa Monica,CA) or somewhere else along the coast.Thanks for the memory refresh.

I have a tendency to listen to the "oldies" and let myself get taken back--sometimes too far back!  I just love this.
