In May,
we coveted poppies and
caressed hills
with our eyes –
pretending
this was Ireland’s
carpet;
the Wisteria’s blooms
briefly teased
before withering
on clay.

You expound upon
the benefits of full sun
to our four Early Girls,
three Better Boys
and one Brandywine;
I notice
a dull ache in my lungs
as the air becomes thick
with heat.

You point
to the blossoming Rock Roses;
but my eye is on the mounting tinder.

What a gorgeous piece of poetry!

and very well "seasoned", too.

...and her crown was formed by the ice in her eyes

(smiles) Awwwwwwww, I love this, sweet friend, I know just how you feel, for there has been a severe drought here and we can sure use an ocean here right about now! (big hugggsssssss) You always plant such pretty flowers in your verse, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Corinne, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

From what I see on TV Corinne those fires must have been terribly fearful!
However, I guess when there's nothing one can do I guess you have to endure the heat and enjoy the blossoming Rock Roses.
I can see why you're concerned. I just hope it's not some jerk throwing out a cigarette that starts it all.
You've painted this picture from spring to summer so clearly in this writing.
Enjoyable to read!

I'm sitting here amidst a great bank of fog... as though the world didn't exist... listening to a wonderful foghorn...

Great poem, m'friend - as usual...

Thanks, icequeen - like your play on words!

Thanks, Noah! Man, I hate droughts!

D- so, coastal, eh? Nope, not Denver, but you know that! More like Sierra Foothills.

Thanks, Ethome. The worst is when the forest fires start, they last for weeks on end and the stench of smoke is ever present.

Nan, you shore know how to make a gal jealous! Careful, or you'll have unexpected guests! Hmmm, must be time to write another lighthouse poem!
