In shimmer and glory of morning
the last blink of hope’s eye
is carried away on the rolls
of staccato drumbeats
All breath held for miracles
has been heard in a sigh
sifted by spades and channeled
across the wide, wide river
Her surreal mist guards
an intense longing
for buried treasures
Heartbeats stretch with each
note of trumpeted solace
God is nigh
Tears and sweat and blood
shall make this fertile ground
for a new century
No monument will ever stand
Higher, Greater, Longer
than the humanity
that readied the garden
in which the last of the
angels will sleep

icequeen, I too watched in tears the closing of Ground Zero today...
This is one incredible write describing the scene
and your personal thoughts as well...
Wonderful tribute, delicately,
and reverently depicted.

IceQueen~
I've been touched so tenderly with today's events ... you just touched me again~

Such moving thoughts ... thank you~

Thank you all for your kind responses. I was touched by the solemnity of the ceremony today... and thanking God that not one politician stood up to pontificate and posture over what it all means. It was respectful and dignified, as well it should be.

and then the words just kind of tumbled out

...and her crown was formed by the ice in her eyes

This is a stunningly wonderful piece!

Fool, said my Muse to me, look in thy heart and write.
