Tender embers .

If only old flames could burn a new,
The ashes of a fire I once had for you,
If only I could re-ignite,
To feel the warmth and see the light .

Now long gone the time we burned,
The clock has ticked,
Only now, I’ve learned,
Looking back is pain for me,
Though years have past it’s agony .

Questions I now ask my self,
Like why I left ?
Such a perfect wealth,
A wealth of love and joy we share,
To live my life in this despair .

Why so long have I looked away,
To turn from our nights,
To turn from our days ?
I kid myself I’m happy now,
So why do I wonder why and how ?

All this pain,
This pain I’m feeling,
From a time long ago,
My wounds just aren’t healing,
I’m burnt up and down,
From my head to my toe;
And the scars run deep,
The love that we shared,
Can still make me weep .

So with all the love,
That still smoulders away,
Deep in my soul to this very day,
I must nurture and tender and keep it alight,
Till I find you my love,
And my heart can ignite .

When I find you and hold you,
I’ll never let go,
Flames burning anew,
My heart all a-glow;
But now till I find you,
I’ll have to hold on,
To this feeling inside,
An ember, tender yet strong .

Impressive.  I like the flow throughout the poem.  I REALLY like the way you ended on a note of hope.  Very well done.
