~* And Still The Still Willows Cry *~

They lived in troubling times, in those days of old.
In spite of the fact that most knights were bold.
lands became littered with castles and kings,
cluttered with churches, whose bells didn’t ring.
Those were days of mourning, a time to just sigh,
As warriors in armor, on horseback stormed by.

Ravaging the villages, for the sake of a cross,
No conscience of another life they would toss.
They’d kill the young, the old, and they knew
death stained their arrows, fresh with the dew.
Many would laugh after battle, living the lie,
And the wind in the willows continued to cry.

Their conscience had left them so long ago,
in battles it mattered not to sling one more blow.
They wouldn’t listen those knights in days of old,
The stood up proud for their king, brave and bold.
They should have listened to the willow’s cry,
For those who hate instead of love, surly will die.

That's an awesome story-poem thingy (I'm not one for technical names...just not my nature). I loved the imagery. I feel the same way about the religous battles like the crusades (I'm pretty sure that's what you're talking about here...correct me if I'm wrong) I thought what they did was very hipocritical that they preached to live like god and caused war.

Their conscience had left them so long ago...

and I believe it's no different today for many...

I love the tales of old.

Oh my gosh, I LOVED this poem.  It was absolutely FANTASTIC!  It was beautiful.  Every line I read, I had to stop and think of it and close my eyes and understand the beauty in each and every line.  The picture at the top is spectacular!  GREAT WRITE.

This line caught my eye the most:

Many would laugh after battle, living the lie,
And the wind in the willows continued to cry.

This could be posted anywhere. It's about the dark side of human behavior, but presented in a fresh light. And we haven't really gotten past the dark ages yet, have we? Only the costumes have really changed.
Well done poem!

Oh yes, Sharon....please do post this in open......

Their conscience had left them so long ago,
in battles it mattered not to sling one more blow.

It reminds me of the whole Palestinean-Israeli crisis and the suicide bombers....and of course also of 9/11.

Although it is dark poetry, I think that those of us who usually post in Open would love a chance to read and comment on this piece.

The imagery is so beautiful and the poem is so very well written.
Posting it in Open will give it more play.

Enjoyed this, Sharon...very well done.  It would have been fine in open, and it is great here, as well.

You know you are writing of one of my most
enjoyed parts of history...

Sadly though,  these were terrible times...
My ancestors were driven from France to
England ...by religious wars....Records of
our ancestors stopped in the early 1600s
because of these wars and the burning of
churches and records... (Huguenots) They
then migrated to the US in the 1600s to
avoid religious persecution and possible
death..

Yes,  terrible times indeed...and you
captured them well with your pen..

Sharon darling girl yet again darling heart you have written the perfect poem, flows like a dream, words etched in gold and the rhyme is utterly utterly divine. YOU know I love this one don’t you. Stunning piece of writing from you, utterly outstanding.

The way you carried the theme through, so often your work is the epitome of style and form, In this you’ve written this so clearly so truthfully that the reader simply cannot ignore the problem and pretend it isn’t happening. The message comes through so well, the more things change the more they stay the same. Except there is hope and with writers like you to flag the issues we shall prevail.

Absolutely excellent writing here well done darling girl

Mysteria!  Your talents are showing!  You have been developing your rhythm, and rhyme, but you continue to have that extra enchantment in taking the exact picture and mixing it with the right words...

Oh, how your mind does wind around the vines of truth and presnts them in a magical way. I miss you, dear, have been out of touch with the world, it seem, but my garden is beautiful.
As is your poetry

I sure appreciate your poetic talent.
