Can a non-poetic man dream poetic dreams, Or is one saddled with one's lot, with plainness it beseems? As shadows lengthen into night and dreams are summoned forth, Can one espy the Southern Cross when eyes are facing north? If one sees in black and white, no colors seen by eyes, Do rainbows and the set of sun explode across the skies? Does fate preclude all but the Bard to dream mid-summer's night? "She walks in beauty like the night," is only Byron's sight? It once was asked how man can write, of what he has not seen, To soar in heaven’s high above, to float on clouds serene, While I dream not in foreign tongue, I fly on winds of time, For in my soul in still of night, I dream in odist's rhyme. I dream of tales of long ago, of melodies of love, Tender words of wonderous things, gifts from the gods above, As nightingales in evening sing, odes touch my soul within, Allowing me to sail aloft, above life’s daily din. A poet’s dreams are soothing balm, setting one’s soul free, To touch upon a gentle wind, to sail night’s satin sea, For in the realm of poet’s dreams, although a mortal be, Man transcends this earthly world; transcends eternity. |
