The Hardest Fall

I remember when money came easy,
and it flowed through my hands like so much water.
The bills were always new, the ink almost wet,
and I spent it so fast it was barely dry, before it was gone.
I remember the fall…the reality of losing it all.

I remember fast cars, faster women,
living loose, and easy;
tomorrows never came, life was good.
Surrounded by friends I had it all…
until the fall…the reality of losing it all.

I remember you with the laughing eyes,
the way you melted my heart,
the birth of our baby, the love in your heart,
the way you soothed my soul; my light in the dark,
until the fall…the reality of losing it all.

I remember the nights laying in bed,
wondering how so much right could turn so wrong,
so much life could wither and die, how one so high, could fall,
and yet, I'd give it all away again, if I could change, one thing;
losing you,  was the hardest fall…of all.

What an achingly sad write...
Yet at the same time a splendidly penned piece!
I enjoyed this one very much this evening.

I like the way you’ve written this, very tender moments, lost in the memory of lost love. I think we’ve all walked our own paths of this same road…unfortunately.

If she who dies with the most toys wins, then can I have some toy boys please?

I really like how you set the life story up. One that's been heard many times but there are so many different angles......I have to agree with you. I went through the same thing and losing her was the hardest fall of all!
Good write!

hear that - like the format and the repetition... it served well to emphasize your point.

I think you're right. Most of us, if not all, have felt what you've expressed, but that doesn't make the hurt go away. I wish you the best in your healing
