This is for my dear first husband who died three years ago today, on May 22, 1999

Sometimes

Sometimes
it feels as if you have just left
just said your final goodbye
lying there in that sterile hospital room
with the shadow of your soul
slowly slipping from your grasp

sometimes
it feels like yesterday
that I held your hand for the very last time
amongst the antiseptic odors
and the beeping monitors
playing the sad symphony of your moribund body
note by note
chord by chord
I listened to the mechanical music of your dying

always
I will remember
our last painful farewell
the final caress of our intertwining fingers
as your fevered body cooled to my touch
releasing you from your chains of suffering
setting you free from your prison of pain

always
I will cherish
the sound of your voice
straining to tell me one final time
that you loved me
the memories we made together
the tears and triumphs we shared
the bond created by our love
from first tentative flirtation
to our last tender goodbye

It must have taken a great deal of courage to share something so very personal, and for that, it is my pleasure to know you as a poet, and as a friend...

(tears flood down my face) Oh Lyra, this is so very heartbreaking but sooooooo beautiful too, sweet friend, there's not much I can say here except my heart cries out to yours and I know deep down his love will never be forgotten and will always be in you, for he is the one who brought you this courage you show in your writing and he is so proud you continue to share your love to the world as you always did with him! (BIGGGGG SYMPATHY HUGS)

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

Lyra,
you show your spirit when you write like this and you have a grand spirit.

Thank you so much, Kacy...this has been a rather difficult day for me.  We had so many things to do, which was actually good in a way, because it took my mind off things...but we finally did get to the cemetary, and this evening we watched some old videotapes of him....
Needless to say, I am crying...

Thank you so much for your friendship, Karilea.  I think some of the most wonderful friends I have, I have made through my poetry postings...especially here at Passions.
That was a difficult day for me...and that day every year since, including today...has been difficult.
I will probably always hate this date.

Thanks so much for your sweet reply, Noah...
Losing him was difficult, but I think that losing my son, just 14 months later was even more difficult...

Thanks so much for your reply, faterider...
It was very bad, but the whole family and our best friends were all there for him, and if it can be possible at all...he had a very lovely and peaceful death...but I still miss him...always will.
