The Shoes

Its the shoes
its always the shoes that set me to crying
now sitting there in the corner of my kitchen

black canvas, Converse hi-tops
it seems you always had a pair
the first when you were nine

little league
guitar lessons
college
med school
marriage and fatherhood

and as you grew
the shoes did too
they soon became symbolic of you

patterns of wear
the same on each pair

Oh why did you die?
the tears won't dry

only just last week, those very shoes
walked through my door with your juanty gait
your big crooked grin
and your tousled hair

and now, in my kitchen corner they sit
so empty without you
its always the shoes that set me to crying

Softly again, this keyboard shares the pain. For you and for Larry, I wish you peaceful hugs and memories only of Love.

Lyra, perhaps coming from you who have gone through this pain also.....it will help Larry in some small way to know he is not alone.
Thank you for the repost.

No...as was pointed out...Larry is not
alone....For you stand beside him...as many
of the rest of us stand behind both of you.

With a huge hug for each of you...

Thanx Lady Lyra...

Thank you so much, faterider....
I can share my pain because I can feel his pain acutely....but of course everyone experiences it a bit differently, so I can't say that I know exactly how he feels.

It is just about the most horrible thing in the world...to lose a child...especially so suddenly and unexpectedly.

Lyra,

i think that's a wise statement you made there..sometimes in our eagerness to comfort someone, we assume we understand all about his pain and agony..which we don't, of course...

and i think it requires greater strength to show someone your pain than to tell him you understand...heart-hugs

Thank you so much, Jeff...for your sympathy and your empathy for both myself and for Larry.  Larry and I have become kindred spirits over something really awful that we share.
The death of a child is probably the worst thing anyone can ever experience.

Luckily for Larry, he has Nancy Lee and luckily for me, I have David.  I simply cannot imagine going through something this horrible without someone close, with whom to share it.

Thank you so much, Saunni...I think "heartbreaking" is probably the correct word.
There really is nothing which will break your heart, more than the death of one's child.

Thank you so much, Larry...I still have those shoes in my kitchen, even though I have moved to a new house.  I think I will always have them in my kitchen.

It would be really nice of you could find a momento...something which strongly reminds you of Ginger Michelle, and keep it always in a place where you will see it.

I hope you are doing well...Please call me whenever it is convenient for you...
