Wind Walker

I'm that type of straight-laced dreamer
riding the ebb and flow of the ocean,
accepting where the breeze takes me
on wind walking dipped in naive.

I fit the mold of youthful chance,
of one who clicks her ruby red heels
burning a soul of scarecrow straw
that follows the yellow brick road, sealed in a genie's bottle
against a seashell of wants, drowning deaf, my ear.

I'm that overplayed record of whys and sighs
just before the prize, that laughs an out of taste kiss...
"catch me if you dare,"  though Cupid's bow is bent,
and luck has run out, it ran away with the spoon
now digging a grave in the ground
flailing hope over the moon.
And, I'm the one who coined the phrase "falling star,"
shooting right through the eyes with fairytale lies,
'cause when 'easy' ceases to exist, blindly, so do I.

Yes, I'm that dreamer, a misfit of jesters
entertaining to shiver in my own goosebumps,
hoping and wishing, waiting and wailing,
exploited by fate
alas, to find
it arrives too late.

If you cut the princess
does she not bleed?
Oh yes, that's right
I'm the one who bleeds a thousand hollywood endings
that I don't have the budget or peroxide hair for;
as love is a bowl of sugarcoated concubines
though I desire only to be a first wife dined,
but, my mouth is pouted shut,
my heart is fingerless
and it can't scratch that itch.

It's February again
and the envelope excoriates adhesive
of glue that holds my paper heart together,
for, it's tongue cannot lick the valentine
when it's stamped "return to sender," before it's even sent,
like an achingly slow to peel onion
of unopened lover's skin, weeping in seep.

I am tender slapped awake
now fragile to hesitate
before I dance on air prematurely,
but, I'll surely find my faith
and read between the fabled lines.

And I know...
I need a moment on the wind
just enough for tears to dry.

Melissa
This is quite the marvelous array of perspective even though with a slight melancohly twist it awakens the imagination of the reader to explore the images.

I really didn't know this...
"as love is a bowl of sugarcoated concubines
though I desire only to be a first wife dined,"
I'm looking for that bowl so I can do my social duty. I need to find a safe haven for those wayward lasses!! Opps! there I go proving you right!

Melissa, this is one spectacular write!!
I'm not even going to try to choose my favourite lines
or stanzas as I love them all.
This is you writing at your finest
and into my library it goes!

Thank you Sy, Ethome, Enchantress, Sven and Noah...something quite odd inspired this poem, but, you wouldn't believe me if I told you lol

At least a happy ending came out of this melancholy piece

"Poetry is not an opinion expressed...
it is a song that rises from a bleeding
wound...or a smiling mouth"

Wow is right!  Missy,
you're really reaching
deep for these, aren't you?
I'm glad that I made time for
this one, it's amazing.
