Between a laugh and a tear...

In memory of Mr. Alec Campbell (1899 – 2002), the last known survivor of the Gallipoli campaign, and all the ANZACS. Though our nation mourns the loss of the last of the living legends, their courage and sacrifice shall never be forgotten. “We will remember them”

Gallipoli’s Blood

Not too long ago there was but one
But his time was short and now there is none
No more than boys they went off to war
Such horror endured on that foreign shore

ANZAC Legend born from Gallipoli’s blood
Those reluctant heroes, no respite from above
They gave their all, their hearts, their soul
But those left behind would never grow old

The legacy remains for those of today
Their memory revered as we make our way
The spirit they gave can’t be explained
It is who we are, in our souls ingrained

And still now they go to take up the fight
Stand proud and tall in the belief of right
Our Sons and Daughters, the future they see
And they’ll carry the spirit, of Gallipoli

*sniffs*  That is so sweet, and sad, and beautiful!  I'm sure that this poem would touch them and the families they left behind, as it has touched me.  A very wonderful read.  Thank you!

Edward, I received chills reading this...perhaps it is the music I am listening too...perhaps it is the loss herein...regardless, thank you for sharing yourself, and him, through your poetry...

one kiss of his mouth,
one touch of his hand
