Night People

Each night, as darkness settles into the corners of my being
and sleep stitches my eyelids tight
they emerge from the depths of my soul
to wander through my restless sleep
night people
calling on me at odd hours
through feathered clouds of indigo mist

I don't know them
but they seem to know me
in a flimsy sort of way
perhaps our paths crossed
for one simple important moment
a touching of voices
a whisper of minds
a speaking of hands
and then...a swift goodbye

the houses where they live...
these people of the night
are strewn with distant echoes of familiarity
as if I'd once visited there
long ago
on a silken strand of a forgotten memory

but as I awaken, each morning
unbuttoning my eyes
and throwing off the cobwebs of the night
they disappear into the ether of my day
only to remain on my shadowy edges
making their appearence
when once again, darkness fills my being
and sleep claims my weary soul

Yep, that reads about right.  Liked this one a lot, Lyra.  Nice to know I'm not the only one awake.

I go to sleep at 7 in the morning...

that's the norm for me now, very tiring.

(smiles) Oh Lyra, I know these dreams so well too, sweet friend, how everything goes topsy-turvy and it's like that parade in the Hunchback of Notre Dame or Portobell Road in Bedknobs and Brromsticks, this is wonderful! (big hugggssssss) Your wonderful words always make such visions come alive, sweet friend, I love it, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Lyra, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

I can't believe you didn't go to sleep, Duncan...after I ordered you to do so...

What ever is the matter with you!

I usually don't stay up that late, but just couldn't get to sleep last night...but posting this poem and having to edit it 3 times made me tired enough....and thats all it took!

Thanks so much, Janet Marie...I wrote this one right after I had finished radiation treatment and I was so tired that I was sleeping about 16-18 hours a day...now I am down to 10 hours and its been 2 weeks as of today, since I finished those treatments.

But I have always found that when I sleep very deeply, when I'm really tired is when I dream the most...this is about a dream, almost remembered and it will probably be a subject for yet another poem.

Thanks so much, Noah...Yes dreams really are crazy, but its funny how they seem to make perfect sense while you're dreaming them.

BTW, what are you doing home from school today?

Thanks Lauren...doesn't that just drive you crazy when you can remember just a little bit of a dream but not the whole thing?

This often happens to me and it just haunts me all day long!

Thanks so much Cheryl...and its so nice to see you here again.

Lately, I have been dabbling in free verse a bit, but I'm still writing some rhyming poems.

One of these days, I'm going to come back and spend time time with all of my friends at White Crow, but I finished my radiation treatments 2 weeks ago and I'm still quite tired but not as tired as before, and most of the other side effects seem to be easing up...but its hard to post at more than one website with limited energy.

Lyra, I wake up at about 2 or 3 in the afternoon. The only thing hard about it is that the sunshine hurts my eyes

hugs back at ya!

Ooh that must be difficult, Dixie...
When I first finished radiation treatments, I was sleeping so much that sometimes I wouldn't wake up until 1:30 in the afternoon.

I was glad for the sleep, but felt like I was missing out on so much of my day.

Things are normalizing now, and I am sleeping from 8 to 10 hours each day.  Much more than I'm used to, but I know that I'm recovering and still need lots of sleep.

Thanks so much, Martie...
I didn't remember completely...I almost remembered though, and thats what drives me crazy.
Dreams seem so real while we're having them and they make so much sense, but even if we can remember them when we wake up...they seem so senseless that I think our memories just release them.
