From ebony to smoke
In the last that we spoke
Of a warm wind like this
Forever we kiss

From ebony to blue
In the last that we knew
Of a single way home
Low sultry moan

From ebony on light
In the last moment right
Of a love throughout time
Distant sweet chime

From ebony to black
In the last wish we lack
Of a long lasting hold
Sweet story gold

I thought the repetition of "From ebony to" very effective in representing something the same in the midst of change. The four stanzas can stand separately, and yet together they make a rather symbolic impact, of four seasons representing the stages of life. Deceptively simple, but there's so much depth beneath this still water poetry. I liked very, very much!
