Mum’s Chickens
Happy Mother’s Day Mummy

Mums face when we gave her
Those chickens
She smiled as she always did
Said I love them darlings
And none of us knew
Not once that they
Really scared her silly
I didn’t find out until years later
None of us did
We thought she loved
Those chickens
As much as she loved us

They were the noisiest chickens
When they weren’t clucking
They were squawking
She used to run into the pen
Feed them
And run out
Because they chased her

They never gave us any eggs
Not once, not one single one
Finally after we’d had these
Noisy chicken about 6 months
Mum asked if we’d mind
If she sent them to
Live on the farm
Which wasn’t far away
She promised they would
Live happily there
And they did
Not only that
They laid eggs
Never stopped laying them

Oh yes I remember those
Chickens!!

I would rather have one breath of his hair,
one kiss of his mouth,
one touch of his hand
than an eternity without it.

Krissy,
I am giggling inanely here as I used to have chickens so I can relate to your tale. Also my children gave me a suicidal guinea pig for one Mother's Day but that another story entirely.
Loved yours to bits.

Ah, Krissy, the cutest chick your mother ever had was YOU! and, judging by your poetry, you never lay an egg, either
