the cedar shingles rattle softly
while the wind slowly whirls around
getting itself worked up for the task
of huff puffing and blowing my house down

from the lake comes the first cool breezes
and you can see, in the form of white caps
the meaningful winds of the coming storm
plodding their way unnerringly towards the shore

Inside it is suddenly at the edge of night
silent except for the slight rattling shingles
and then the first fat raindrops thump
and splatter across the bullseyed windowpanes

and for a moment there is peace in rythm
broken by a flash,and a large crack
booming giants slam outside and with them
bring mad and howling devil dog winds

the first to fall before their might
an aging oak, torn from it's age enfeebled roots
comes crashing through the smaller thickets
reverberating, the thud through my bones

my dogs have gone hairy, seeking shelter
under the safety of their masters chair
and I am wary of the beasts outside unleashed
as the forces of nature have no master

Hail now begins to patter upon my roof
now tapping, now pelting, now striking
and a window weak with age, breaks
letting the storm into my home

then as sudden as moods shift, the storm stops
from my broken window, only a drip and a breeze
outside the sudden green is as striking
as the storm that came before it

This is exceptional, James... Your imagery is superb... I love your "bullseyed windows" - the handblown type, eh?

Your storm has a way of surging right through the reader here, m'friend...
