there is a time for bleak realizations
and mine seems to have been made
and yet
the power it has over me is only given
if I allow it such a pleasure.
Such secrets we stow away from ourselves
when we fear the things we have done.
We hide them in dust and corners
encloak them in protective white
so that they seem pure on the surface.
But beneath the cloths we have created ghosts
and we give them will to rise and writhe
when we least suspect that they will.
Haughty demons flaunt themselves in front of our faces
and remind us of all we have been plagued with
all residing in smiling white sheets.
They float about our heads
mocking
taunting
refusing to let us keep them secret
loud
chanting
slowly whispering each and every indiscretion
flailing for life against the supression of our hearts and forgiveness
til finally
we slam the storybook lives we created
and deal with the reality of ourselves.
and perhaps it is here where demons are useful
but
...shhhhhhhhhh...
lest we wake them with acceptance
and those white sheets
covering the heaviness of our deeds
fall off
revealing the ugly mockery of past mistakes.
For now
we slam the storybook
and strive for who we are not to be lost
in fairytale expectations
or the quiet black that resides
where we hide the things that show our teeth.

Girl, you amaze me with this.  This is such an honest, raw depth of write.  You say it better than I could ever dream to, and gawd, I relate and appreciate every line.   It's a keeper!

Take care,
Melissa~

(big hugggsssssss) Oh Jennifer, this is so very true, sweet friend, I find it hurts to keep secrets and tears to yourself without sharing, for the pressure only becomes more unbearable and unless we end the discretion, we can never feel truly secure or comfortable and the ghosts will just linger on! (sigh) This is powerful, sweet friend, I love it, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Jenn, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

We all have things we've done that we cover with these white sheets, unfortunately.  I learned a long time ago to just be careful not to create any more ghosts.  This is an excellent piece of writing, my friend.

I've found that sometimes, those spirits have a life of their own. . .

deeply profound. . . and again, coming from a heart that knows the secrets of life. . . or, at least some of them. . .

excellent work. . .
