Some Memories

Sitting like a lump on a log
Watching from a stump the fog
I let my mind clutch mystery
With just a touch of history

Frozen shadows on permafrost
Above the ice of long and lost
The youth of me entombed in Vail
Written below in frozen Braille.

I volunteered to fight a war
With no idea of what in store
And fought the cold and ice and snow
And my God how the wind did blow.

It froze my ears it froze my tears
It even froze my only beer.
The wind slipped through each hole and crack
Stabbed icicles into my back

But mostly I remember loss
That nailed my heart upon a cross.

That closing couplet gave me a chill....
a testament to the power of your gifted words. For the loss and the painfilled memories, that generations of this country's servicemen carry with them, I'll have no words that would do it all justice...but the endless respect is always there.

Thank God for men like you!  In The American Legion, May 2002 issue, there is a commentary written by William J. Bennett.  America Expelled.  In his usual way, he writes a brilliant article, and it made me want to miss the next week's worth of meals when I look at how "politically correct" we seem to be making our children.  They do not care what their country is all about, as long as they can live long enough to become filmmakers.

In short, they do not know what the word Patriotism means.

But you do, and many like you do.  Keep talking/teaching/writing, Sy...and never let us forget!

(big hugggssssssss) This is so very heartwrenchingly beautiful, sweet friend, it too troubles me to see that somehow we all remember what Jesus did to save us all from sin yet it saddens me to take His doctrines for granted and how that is the whole gist of it and why we must do something to harmonize to one another and make these memories more than just a freeze-frame but a movie directed with a sense of freedom and liberty. (sigh) This is a very powerful sentiment, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Seymour, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,

Dear sweet man ... to write it is to re-live each painful moment of it .. but, to write it is also to share it with others~
