Dear Spam, it's time to raise your banner high,
Eighth wonder of the world in oblong tin.
Let nations sing your praises as you fly
Much healthier than any vitamin.

Mysterious meat with texture all your own
Ingredients known only to a few,
One never will encounter trace of bone
While feasting on the wonderment of you.

Though porterhouse and t-bone may entreat
My mind to take a different point of view
I know that there can be no better meat
Available for nourishment than you.

Though connoisseur respected as I am
I never shall forsake the taste of Spam.

(giggles in delight) Really? I thought Chinese Food was the eighth wonder of the world! LOL! This is such a wonderful tribute to the one and only original canned meat, sweet friend, you should become the new spokesperson of Hormel! (giggles) This is such a cute and funny sonnet, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Balladeer, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

’Deer dearest heart only you could write such a brilliant sonnet to that wonderful culinary delight SPAM.

Spam Spam it’s joy in a can
That delightful treat delicious Spam
Around the table diners wait
For this pink meat to hit their plate
With one accord they all set to
Demolish the meat all but a few
Who like to savour every bite
Of their favourite feast on Friday night

Wonderful writing as always I love it. You are just too too good at this

Love and warm stuff

Okay now I know how you got the "bug".  See, I lived by a Spam factory and saw them making that meat one day as a school day trip. Well...right before my eyes there was this cute littel fly buzzing about here and there, that landed on the assembly line, and got squished into the meat as quick as you can blink your eye.  So...I figure if I saw one fly, imagine he must have had friends right?  Do I have to tell you that I would never eat that meat or any processed meat or fish in a tin again?  I want them to stand up and tell me for sure that "bugs" are not part of the chewy and crunchy stuff inside, and when they can do that with a straight face, then I may think about Spam, weiners, sausages, tuna, etc. again.
I buy from my butcher, and trust me, he knows I hate bugs and flys,

Is this long enough for ya?  Sorry! LOL   but I did like you poem, it was a cool sonnet!

serenity..I'm a nut - but it ain't from eating Spam!! Try it with picantic sauce!

Doreen..Spam ain't cheap meat!!! (they raised the price 3 times this year - I KNOW!)

Noah...Chinese food?!?!?! Stuff that turns you yellow and stunts your growth? NO WAY!!

bsquirrel..that was hor-rible!!! (but funny!)

Titia...I'm a real glutton
  For eating lots of mutton
So bring that treasure with you coming here.
Make sure when you prepare it
And bring it here to share it
It's not from sheep that you named Balladeer!!!!

Enchantress...bet I could getcha to love it

Melissa..processed meat rules, too...and so do YOU, patootie!

Sunshine....constantly!!

Tara..thank you! Spam has a style all its own...

mushy...joy in a can is right! Joy in THE can is where it sends ya!

Mysteria...next time you buy from the butcher, let the meat stand for a while and then count the flying maggots. All meat has bug larvae in it. You better turn vegetarian quick!!

DUncan...Why am I afraid to ask?????

As a "baby-boomer" I well remember the taste - haven't had it in years, though...  very salty as I remember, but great with mustard a quarter inch thick.

Now we have something on radio each morning called "Spam" and on the radio web-site they even use a picture of the can.

Enjoyed the memory...

Alterego~~Mom, have I ever told you why you will NEVER find a can of that pseudomeat in my pantry?

I loved your Poem, Michael, much more than the meat.

Nike,
Spam as I remember it back in 43
Is nothing but chopped and pressed ham
I never took to it and it never took to me.
But C'est la vive and here I am.
I've never seen anything you wrote that I didn't like. Enjoyed

Spam it is,
Spam it was,
Spam it will become,
Spam knows all,
Spam sees all,
Spam is yet undone;
Spam is the Alpha,
Spam is the Omega,
The beginning
The end,
The everything.
Spam will rule us all.

actually my posting nick is due to yahoo and the joys of internet romance

my yahoo SN is ILoveTheSmellOfNapalmInTheAM, after the quote from Col. Kilgore in Apocalypse Now.

Tara's yahoo SN is Constant_State_Of_Confusion.

my nick on here came about because i hate making new yahoo SN's, and tara had made a SN for me - Napalms_Chickie_CSC, so i made one for her on here - which i got stuck with, heh.

sadly, for those of you who might have misunderstood, i am actually very very rarely confused

By the way...I watched something at 3:00 a.m. this morning (couldn't sleep) on the Life channel about a survey they took with dogs, yup!  This survey gave dogs almost every possible thing a dog would want and more, and the SPAM won!  I rest my case.

Now how'd we miss picking up some Spam at the grocery store in Cape Cod! You MUST have been in withdrawal by the time you got home ... or did you have a hidden stash in that suitcase of yours, lol!
