Poser un Lapin

Dolcequita, ma douce,
velveteen and shy. That my arms
fit well around ta petite taille
I took to mean you were delicate
rather than fragile.

I wanted to keep your lips
new and pink, be reminded comment rougir,
hug you tight and breathless
as skin, close as the corners of rooms
where walls meet ceiling.

Your silence feather-light
and as quiet, another word
je ne pouvais traduire.
Kissing you j’t’ai mordu,
I inhaled your breath

like a wish I didn’t mean
for anyone to know.
Avec les lèvres meurtries tu m’as posé un lapin,
held my hand
loose as a good-luck charm
spent of all its magic.

Sorry Chris, I always forget that.

Here goes:

Poser un Lapin (word for word 'to give/place a rabbit' also a French expression for being stood up)
Dolcequita (Spanish for little sweetie)
ma douce (my soft, or my soft one)
ta petite taille (your small waist)
comment rougir (how to blush)
je ne pouvais traduire (I could not translate)
j’t’ai mordu (I bit you)
Avec les lèvres meurtries tu m’as posé un lapin (with bruised lips you stood me up)

Hope this helps.

(smiles) Oh Raz, I love french just as I love this wondeful poem, knowing plenty of another romantic language, Spanish, I was able to understand much of this poem! (big hugggssssss) This is excellent, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Raz, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,

C'est bon. (that was a pretty weak reply, I know, but my french is severely limited, et je suis tres fatigue aujourd'hui). See what I mean?

Enjoyed.

ecrivan,
"C'est dans le milieu de la prostitution au siècle dernier que la locution est née.
Une fille qui se faisait "faire cadeau d'un lapin" ou "poser un lapin" quand son client, après avoir pris son plaisir, "détaller comme un lapin" en oubliant de rétribuer ses faveurs."
http://www.leximot.net/expression.php3?id_expr=986

And for the rest of you, the expression "poser un lapin", to be given a rabbit, comes from 19th century prositution... a woman was said to be 'given a rabbit' when her client, after having his fun, would 'run off like a rabbit' without renumerating the young woman for her favours....

I really enjoyed this.  Not really knowing the language, but seeing some connection to English, made it all the more alluring.  And what did you say to bsquirrel about California?

Martie,
squirrel said his French was severely limited... I told him not bad for a guy from southern California.

Glad this appealed to you.

MUCH better! uhmm - not the poem, but rather, my understanding. with the translations (i didn't really pay attention in French class, i was too busy ogling the teacher! ) but the line "with bruised lips you stood me up" ratcheted this from good to great.

this is so soft and yet so vivid. very much appreciate the translations!
