So now the aftermath has come.
The rest can now be told.
Cape Cod is but a memory
Of friendships wrapped in gold
But now we see the residue
That's made our lives pure hell...
A malady that I have named
The Curse of Isabel!

Eight people met on Cape Cod's shore
To spread a little cheer...
Nan, Hoot Owl, Liz, Mysteria,
Sy, Kit and Balladeer.
The final one to join the group
Just why, no one could tell,
The lady with the golden voice..
Sy's good wife Isabel.

We should have known the minute
Fog came rolling off the bay
And mussels on the shore began
To try to swim away
That something was amiss or held
Beneath an evil spell.
We could not know the reason was
The Curse of Isabel!

She did her best to help us out
And did so with delight
To let us know that we were wrong
And she was always right.
We never would have had the chance
To spend our time so well
Without the constant guidance of
Our good friend Isabel.

She did so in the calmest voice
That I have ever heard.
She drowned out foghorns in the night
with but a single word.
The Hound of Baskerville would be
mute placed against her yell.
How blessed we were to have a pal
Like our friend Isabel.

We went to Martha's Vineyard
With our faces all aglow
And passed the spot where Jaws was filmed
Those many years ago.
The fish went in a frenzy as they
Swam away and dived
As if they knew the REAL  jaws
Had finally arrived!

So what's the aftermath, you say?
Let's start with Balladeer.
He came down with a cold that really
Knocked him on his rear!
Mysteria was sick two days..
She never left her bed.
Nan had a family tragedy
That will remain unsaid.

Liz met Isabel before
So she remained protected.
Like chicken pox, there's just one time
That you can be infected.
Hoot Owl? Well, I'm not really sure...
May be coincidence
But she packed up and drove away
And ain't been heard from since!!!

Poor Kit! She's in Intensive Care..
Had kidney stones right after
She spent four days with all of us
Amid the fun and laughter.
Doc says it is a mystery
How they could form and swell..
I could have told him that it was
The Curse of Isabel!

Sy doesn't need to be concerned.
He's been immune for years.
He has a pair of hearing aids
That he wears in both ears.
Whenever she begins to rant
Or scream or rave or yell
He simply turns the volume off
And shuts out Isabel!

So that's the way it it, my friends...
A sorry lot are we
Who tried to get together for
Some days of poetry.
Remember what I say to you
And teach your  children well
To never be subjected to
The Curse of Isabel!!!!!

(my thanks to Sy and Isabel for being good sports with permission to post this little patch of humor)

(giggles in delight) Oh Balladeer, this is wonderful, sweet friend, oh my gosh, even the fish are affected by her curse and great white sharks like Jaws, what else can she possibly conjure? LOL! This is such a cute and wonderful tribute to this special member of the Cape Cod Society, sweet friend, I love it, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Balladeer, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

On the floor in hysterics with this one laughing so hard I couldn't even type.
So that explains why I spent all day yesterday in the ER hooked up to IVs, Blood Pressure Machines, and Cardiac Monitors. Hopefully it's not fatal cause I'm not feeling real great yet
Needed this laugh today deer one

’Deer this is so funny, and again I’m laughing fit to bust. Mum isn’t any better she’s laughing so much she’ll have an accident in a moment. This will teach her to sit in the rocking chair won’t it I warned her, does she listen does she? Nooooo, of course not.

The images are priceless, the poem flawless and the laughter is pure medicine, and everyone is always better off for a really good laugh. And the one thing my mum can do is laugh, she can do other things but she is such a terrible giggler you know.

hey mama I got to answer first, more points to me I think

'Deer this is an excellent piece of writing and you get a standing ovation from me.

ROFL.... oh you are bad..........
Michael Michael...
didnt any one ever warn you...
didnt anyone ever tell?
Hell hath no fury ...
like the payback of a scorned Isabel.

ya know...it's funny ...but I heard that a certain "bug" man was under suspicion for these mysterious symptoms...perhaps its a rare case of Spam-itis??

OMG this is so funny!
I laughed through the whole thing, and I must say Isabel is a darling for putting up with these antics. You do capture the moments, Thank you Sy and Isabel for your good spirits. I wonder if the poet is as equally sportsmanlike (hmmmmm ?)
It's food for thought

Be careful, Deer - You're very brave
To pick on Isabel.
I thought I might defend her but
She doesn't need my help.
She knows just how to handle you
And our beloved Sy.
If either of you picks on her
She'll poke you in the eye...

Oh my goodness Michael, only you could get away with this, and Isabel, what a good sport you are about his perpetual digs at you. (which incidentially I enjoyed so much by the way.)

You’d better watch your step
She lives not too far away,
She could sneak up on you,
lambaste you one fine day.

Isabel, what a sport,
To let this humor out,
And you know we love you
The good and curse alike!

ROFLMAO!!!! I love this, Deer One!!! *S*

Oh, my gosh... before my trip
I'll need a vaccination.
For I'll be meeting Isabel -
Will I rue my vacation?
Oh will my only ailment be
A soreness in my side
From laughing at our Balladeer
And Seymour's lovely bride? LOL
