There are conflicting gentle touches
ravaging upside down smiles.
(no, really..I'm smiling if you're standing on your head)
so why would you stand on your head
and watch me with aching eyes
wishing that you could find the she
in expressions unsevered by the mockery romance?
How much sense can you make out of what one person notices
and all the rest of humanity is willingly blind to?
Although Spring smiles at us
the little things are dying today
and as I sit here in an apartment empty of heart
stereo wires neatly arranged for packing
I think of how my soul has been ripped from here
(perhaps from this now cold union)
My walls were beige like this when we first met
and I was ready for forever to decorate every room.
We were supposed to splash passion
and ponder the patterns it made on our life.
Now we stand in an emptying gallery
taking down each meager but well meant picture
with sighs and frowns
trying to put them away quickly
so that our eyes don't linger too long on "used to be"
The "used to be".
We can no longer have that.
You stopped appreciating the variations too long ago
and I followed against my will
put down my can of color
hid it away to dry in a closet in some distant room.
How much sense could you make out of a decline youyou became blind to.
You finally opened your eyes again
but I am immune to their appreciation now
sitting inside a room inside myself
like those cans of paint
drying
slowly thickening
and finally hardening.
My walls are beige again.

How grave is my condition, for I cannot find the words to say, I need you so.

Jenn,
You're breaking my heart here. I think I'll stand on my head and pretend you are smiling. Somber good write.

Jenn, this is one fantastic write here!!
I am sitting her speechless, which is not something I have been known to do often.
Remarkable...just remarkable writing.

I'd be lying if I didn't say that I know exactly how you feel. . . things these days are a little beige for me too. . .

as always, your work is excellent. . . and from the heart. . .

I'm at a loss for words Jenn... simply beautiful in its sadness, full of so much meaning and emotion - you've really touched me with this one.

i have been reliably informed that my walls are not "beige" but instead "desert sand."
i, of course, can only see in 16 colors - so can someone tell me the difference?

i like this, T - even if it IS sad.

Jen, this is your best, without a doubt.  Never before have I gasped while reading one of your poems.  I felt every word and you use some clever and hard hitting images here.
Heck, right now, my walls aren't beige, they're just black.
I really loved this purge of yours, it's a keeper and a reminder of my own unsatisfied life.

Take care,
Melissa~

It can be sad to know when it's over, and to be the only one who can see it.  Looks like you're the one.

Sad, but wonderfully from the heart.

Thank you.

(big hugggsssssssss) This is so very heartbreaking, sweet friend, my heart goes out to you and I hope very soon that we can all do headstands against the wall and see that frown upside-down always shining on your face with true loves content! (sigh) My heart goes out to you, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Jenn, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!
