Ah, to Be a Weed

Wouldn’t it be grand to be as diligent as weeds
and no matter how they maimed us, we’d still somehow succeed.
Though they might even poison us, with some noxious toxic waste,
we’d find a place to hide till we found our perfect grace.

That we would be so rooted in our life’s sustaining source,
there would be no faction that could stay our headed course.
And no matter who, or what, tried to behead us or decrown,
we’d make it to our destiny, with a smile not a frown.

Of course, weeds are unpopular with most of the world,
it tries to extract them from the areas of their ‘scourge.’
So if we were as weeds, we’d have that consequence to meet;
they’d always be at us, aiming hard for our defeat.

Have you ever noticed calamity can be on one side or the other
and perception of one’s world can be in where one takes cover.
In the world at large, one can be a pernicious weed,
yet, on the other hand, in the promised land, a grand and glorious seed?

Best Laid Plans

Yesterday morning
I practically carried my phone upon my hip.
Yet, the moment I left the house,
the rings began to rip.

When I came home an hour later,
three messages, I found.
List’ning to each one of them,
I couldn’t help but frown.

The first from my ISP
to give a call when I returned,
the second from the church
with a message, that I learned,
beheld not all the information
that I needed to succeed,
“Just bring us what you promised,
by the 2nd, if you please.”

The third from my neighbor,
he’d misunderstood my plea,
and straight’ning it out,
well, I guess it was up to me.

Now, today, I’m here again,
waiting for the chimes
to come wafting to my ears
in the silence of the times.

Yet, alas, I face each minute,
each moment of this day,
working, toiling, occupying
in the quiet that betrays.

Have you ever thought to putter,
while awaiting sweeter ply
to take you to a “Calgon” moment
in a gorgeous sun-filled sky?

Only to find
that you’d putter through good deeds
and obliterated chore by chore
in spite of longing to be freed.

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.

Weeds are good...at least they get whacked once in a while!

Let that muse keep flying high, lady!

I once called my now best friend a weed metaphorically in a poem. I'm very glad she was a weed and didn't give up on me. The other poem is superb too.
