Shadows scream overhead as two Canadian geese arrive too late for Spring Break. Touchdown in Creamer’s Field ends all too soon, for the geese are quickly chased from the end zone by a tenaciously territorial eagle. Wet snow still covers much ground. Sudden warm winds bring warmth and rain, flooding both field and street in wet pant legs and muddy feet. Winter laughs, scorns the spring rain, comes back around to tease us with fresh dump of snow, again. But it’s only a matter of time and temperature before winter gets tucked into memory. Still, no sign of cheery red robin, truest harbinger of northern latitude, annual changer of attitude. Vibrant green blades of grass poke their heads up in the corral. Proud Mother Moose with new calf wanders through the yard, nibbling on tender new willow shoots. Spring lifts her sleepy head slowly in the misty morning dew. Rejuvenation. Hope springs, eternally renewed. 'Tis time to bid Lady Aurora adieu. Soon it will be too light at night for my rainbow of dancing lights. The midnightsun will soon takeover the sky, and on the longest day, the summer solstice, This midnitesun shall fly away, bidding this northern latitude goodbye. Following a heart’s quest, she heads south, to the Rockies of the West. But the screaming shadows of Canadian geese will always bring a thought back home to this part of Alaska, no matter how far she may roam. |

  (smiles) This is absolutely beautiful, sweet friend, I want to see Alaska so so much myself, it must be so dazzling up there, and I've always wanted to see the northern lights and the caribou and the dog sleds! Lauren, Alaska is both captivatingly beautiful and incredibly terrifying at times. Noah, one day you will visit AK. You have to come up here in winter and stay at least a month, between October and March to really see the aurora. But it is worth the effort. |

How cool to see your name here again and to read this picture post card...how spectacular a seasons change must be there. Well now, you will just have to create your own fireworks won't you?  This was a lovely tribute to the place you have called home Kacy, and the Canadian geese seem to really get around so you will indeed be reminded. What a lovely postcard you wrote though; I enjoyed it so much.Imagination is more important that knowledge |

That which we have, in sight and/or mind, is always safe in our hearts ... when time comes for our hearts to find that which is missing, fear reigns the thought of loss over gain ... the strength you share in this piece shows you are ready to gain. I, too, have never ventured so far ... but have always wished it so. Perhaps when the day comes, a quick stop at the Rockies would allow me the guidance of seeing beauty in your eyes. Safe travels to all! |
