                     A Gentleman and a Scholar

His soft expressions light his face
Both eyes and smile display his grace
And yet these things are just a part
Of what makes up this poet’s heart
His words omit a subtle flair
              That takes us readers unaware
In lines so rare, all wisdom’s found
       In every verse, talent abounds
    A gentleman he’ll always be
                       He’s bonded proof of chivalry
Though I’ve met plenty, you can bet
A sweeter man, I’ve never met

For Sy, who is truly both a gentleman and a scholar

Hoot

This is a fantastic tribute!  I know that he must be all you say, for his poems show that he is that way.  You were lucky to have met a gentleman and scholar....as he was to meet such a sweet hoot-owl.

===============================

How wonderful of a tribute this is..you say it so well for us all as you capture the magic that is Sy... and you added in an acrostic for added measure and treasure.
He is one of passions brightest stars and we grow in his light. I feel so blessed to have
been able to learn from him and read his wisdoms rhyme, most of all to call him my *winkie* friend. You are so lucky to have got to meet him.
Clever, creative writing with kind intentions,
well done Poetess Hoot-girl

... and I don't know why ...
Why should love come down and just sweep me away
I want to fly ... but there are so many things in my way.

Dear Ruth,

Your pen is wielded with precise,
Exacting words that do suffice
To sketch a portrait of a friend
Who's talents have no ending end

What cleverness you do display
In this your kind and caring way
Accrostically, you're at your best
A liitle touch of sheer finesse

As for Sy, Your artistry
Paints portraits filled with imagery
His character in flawless tune
Musician's trade you do assume

Your pen contains a lot of spice
A painters brush, a pair of dice
A violiner's finest bow
A magic wand in magic show

A swordman's sharpened blade of steel
A swiftly spinning potter's wheel
A scultor's chisel finely edged
A gardeners thumb, with slendor hedged

This verse is Sy, a gentleman
A charming man, a loving friend
His wisdom always does amaze
A reader's eye in dazzling daze

No one could write a verse more true
Ruth, my hat goes off to you
Your hammer's strike precisely fed
You've hit the nail right on the head

This is stunning and beautiful, Ruth and very much the man I know
Liz

Dogonnit, Sy, I KNEW if I went with you that you would get all the women!!

the problem is...she describes you well. You are all that and more, good pal.

An excellent poem, Ruth, and I'm sure Sy feels the same about you....I know I do.

Be well....

Ruth,
I fell in love with you the minute I saw you and hugged you. It was love at first sight.
And to hear you recite your wonderful poetry was a doubble dip of ice cream. Thank you so much for this beautiful poem I will cherish it.

Very "Sy-ish" Ruth, and oh so true.  When I get over this flu or case of Cape Cod, I plan to do my character study poems eventually.  Weather is too nice here to be inside too   Take care, Hootie girl!
