Keyboard

My keyboard is the placenta
that feeds all the
umbilical chords
that stretch from my mind
far beyond the horizon
visible from my window

to minds ofpoets
around the world

eyes on the other side of the globe,
aesthetically connected
to the letters on my alphabet keys

I feel the pulse of their fingers
tapping out phrases
of wonder
pumped by the heart of technology
into my own bloodstream

friends in peotry,
whom I have never seen,
much more intimate friends
than aquaitnances
outside the world of poetry

For through my words,
they see not my face, but my heart

They’ve enterd not the dwelling
in which I live and sleep,
but have visited
the place of my spirit
and sipped from the same well
of emotion

Two spirits connected by
an umbilical chord
of desire
that carries dreams
through the viens
of a humming box
into the murmurs
of a tender heart

oh but I do see your face in my mind, and when you write, I see the smile of the heart....

I think....in my manly way....this is what
I felt when I wrote about poets....but
you penned it far more elegantly...

"they see my heart...my spirit..."

I believe both are too often hidden from view replaced by a facade, a presentation of self required by humanity, peer groups; expectations of others and the society in which one lives - many are seldom themselves, themselves tucked safely deep inside away from the laughter and ridicule of others.

Writing, whether it be poetry or otherwise, as you so aptly put it here, often releases their true self and we get to see the real soul that so wants to be seen and heard. It doesn't always work, but often it does and quite often through constant writing, an evolution of self takes place and the real person stands up and says "this is me, like it or leave it!".

I think if more people were allowed to be themselves, we all would profit by having a more gracious, loving, warm, bonded society...but alas...we have to settle for the wonderful writing of poets to spread the word - there is a better place to be.

Thanks for this wonderful piece, I think you've opened the door for many who write and think,  so they may see they can...be themselves.

Sunshine,
Sometimes we see in others what they don't see in themselves
Thank you, sweet lady

Magnus, There is is a window to the soul in poetry, and the soul can be a very intimate place
Thank you

jwesley, Thank you for your very generous coments. So many times I read a poem and know immediatetly that is something I knew but never said, and it intrigues me that someone found the beautiful words to express it. I never could express myself except through poetry. A very shy soul all my life. It makes me feel good when someone connects with what I am saying in a poem.
THanks again for your comments

Sy, you make me laugh. My heart I think sometimes is overexposed.
Thank you, dear friend

"...very shy soul"...you're speaking with the inventor of the concept of shyness...
half the time I can't even speak verbably...but turn me loose with pen and paper and I can say anything...though over the years I've forced myself to be better at it, but, well I understand!

me again,,,

Elizabeth this is beautiful, such imagery, you are writing just as good as ever, even better. Loved this, floria

And they do love what they see. *S* I like this very much, Elizabeth... you've well described our lifeline and the bounties it brings us. *S*

when you have a heart as filled with good as yours, i fail to see any way in which it might manage to be "overexposed."
great write, while i'm at it.

Here I am late again!  I have been so lucky as I have not only seen inside your heart and soul but shared with you the origin of some of your past memories that have created the things that make you who you are.  I just have to close my eyes and there you are Liz, it is a wonderful thing I tell you, a wonderful thing.
