Can you guess what I am? (see Poetry Challenge Forum for a clue)

***

There is no smile at thought of me
No tender thoughts in poetry
No odes are sung to my guise
I’m not compared to stars or skies

Ancestral deeds are left unsaid
No words will issue from covered dead
But what of all those tales of old
When with my help, young men found gold?

You seek me out in mantle of winter
Gloved, you hope for naught of splinter
In spring you use me at your will
But I see not, bloom of daffodil

Hidden away in darkened space
Used, then left in that common place
Awaiting whim or dirty task
Quietly I do all you ask.

I am…..

You did this challenge, very well, Sharon. Maybe I better change my name from SmartChick to something else. I can't even get started on mine. I think it is a shovel, too.

*gives your muse a kick in the arse*
A shovel or pick for digging earth
Tell me poetess what's its worth?
Metal for digging, a shaft of raw wood
Perhaps without metal cap or hood.
How many rhymes has a shovel seen?
How many times has it come clean
After digging a poet's grave in the ground
And gently covering him when he lay down?
An implement for planting souls
  And righting gravestones over holes.

Attack the toil of drivel
upon the land of grovel
I'll turn and quietly swivel
in search of rusty shovel...

Yep...me thinks is a shovel too....

Down south we call a shovel a ditch key.

From my hand a match light
For my friend a fast flight
On one foot jump the gun
On a kick to have fun

Great write! Burn out! ThisDiamond

Umm, yep, what they said!

Sharon, you make even the most mundane and simplest objectd wonderful!  Well expressed.
My muse is being moody lately, maybe I'll try this challenge too.

Take care,
Melissa~

that's very cool! I like these riddles of yours...course, everyone else gets the answer before I get a chance to read it..(you know I can't stand for there to be replies and not be able to read them)
