Hoot Owl

They call themselves the “hoot owls”
The nurses of the night
And that is why you see a hoot owl’s
Name upon the site

She writes of life and love with the most
Fragile threads of thought
And she could write a book of living
Lessons to be taught

To bring new life, to conquer death,
Each one her nightly part
She holds the tears of life and death
Within her tender heart

As gentle as a baby’s breath
She breaths the winds of grace
Exuding inner beauty through
her bright and lovely face

Delightful as a child’s smile
Her joy consumes your heart
As contagious warmth and love and grace
Spontaniously depart

Behind the lovely eyes there is
A deepness to her soul
Where life itself has somehow left
A large and bitter hole

She fills it with compassion
And the bounty of her treasure
By living each and every day
To life’s own fullest measure

She gives so freely of herself
A heart without an end
I cannot measure my own pride
In calling Ruth my friend

Liz

There is a difference of being a friend untouched, and in being a friend gripped in a warm hug...you have portrayed our HootOwlrn beautifully...thank you, Liz, for going to meet them all, and bringing them to us here, in your words!

Liz, to Ruth and all nurses working to care for sick souls I extend my heart and bow my head in deep thanks to God. For, they care for man of my friends and family, and without them, even I certainly could not be here sharing this sweet poetry kind friendships of Passions. Nurses are indeed very, very special. Thank you for sharing this.

I have known Ruth for several years now at Passions and had exchanged many conversations with her plus poetry collaberations but none of it prepared me for seeing her in person. Ruth is such a kind, gentle, soft-spoken person. I cannot imagine her every saying a bad word about anyone or losing her temper without just cause. She would be my perfect idea of a nurse..kind, caring and efficient. I am proud to have her as a friend..

Your poem is excellent, Liz...

What a lovely and sincere tribute to Ruth, Liz. You have indeed captured her tender and giving essence so very well in this piece ... absolutely lovely.

Ruth, I echo Liz and Michael's sentiments ... you are a very gentle, compassionate and knowledgeable woman ... and I am so very glad I got to meet you in person.

Big hugs to all
/Kit

it sounds as though the time spent together was enjoyed by all.  This is a beautiful write about one of our beautiful poets.  Well done.

From the earliest of my days here on PIP, I've admired the incredible poems she's written, ached for her past, rejoiced in the love she's found... and formed a picture in my heart of a remarkable woman I greatly admire. Now another remarkable woman I greatly admire has met her face to face... and my heart says "YES, I was right." *S*

This is a beautiful poem... but how could it help be? *S* Both subject and author are... *S*

Ruth , HootOwl (Ruth) is all you thought of her and so much more. I think you are very much like her in many ways. I felt so privileged to finally meet her and some day I'm sure our paths will also cross.

Elizabeth you captured our new found friend so well.  Hoot, they have to know - you are also a hoot!  First thank you for caring for me "off duty", sheesh go figure you would have patients on holidays.  I ditto all those above but I love your humorous side Ruth, and will treasure meeting you and I will NEVER forget you chasing Balladeer to that treasure chest, never! LOL, Hugs sweet lady, and you are indeed a lady.
