There is nothing left between us
but song deep shadows.
There is nothing left between us
but basement heat.
There is nothing left between us
but summer's running glass.
There is nothing left between us
but the street.

There is nothing left between us
but the book opened, marked --
a white face searching in a golden room.
There is nothing left between us
but the small, sad death
of this day.
Celebration's bloom.

At first? I was scratching my head over the final line, and then, I smiled and thought, "of course!" Methinks I DO understand! In fact, it makes the poem. Wry look at things, and I love it.

Actually inspired by an erotic story I read on salon.com. Well, the last line, anyway.

Thanks, passing shadows. I've been on a Cure binge recently, so that might explain it.
