My name is coral.
My arms stretch out,
branching into the seas.
You will find me on my knees,
lovingly sheltering many creatures,
some crawling on claws and spidery legs,
while multi-colored fishes dart in and out
amongst my many sheltered coves.
I harbor diversity in harmony.
My name is coral,
giver and protector of life
for the creatures of the seas.
I have lived and grown
in a journey of time and space
far longer than the human race.
And now I find myself attacked
by hurricanes, pollution, and carelessnes,
and by aggressive collectors
who would display me in a case,
like a prized trophy.
I am a living organism.
I may look like a dead plant
or a scratchy old stick.
But I am a living animal.
Or more precisely,
a colony of living things,
working symbiotically,
and in harmony and unity.
Do not disregard me or abuse me
out of ignorance, callousness, or indifference.
For my fate is connected to your fate.
My name is coral.
And I am more like you
than you ever knew.

Proof that more poems about coral have to be written. In fact... that might inspire me to write one. So thanks for the read AND the idea.

what if I told you,
what if I said
that I love you
do we dare cross

(smiles) Oh Kacy, this is so very true, but in order for our coral reefs to survive we must help them now and help the zooanthelae produce and the polyps stay healthy so they can reproduce and expand the coral reef system and avoid polluting the waters! (kiss on cheek) This is excellent, sweet friend, we all love you so much, I love the ocean so very much too! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Kacy, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

Thanks to each of you for your reply. And I have a feeling any one of you could put together an amazing coral reef story or poem. Writing from a different species POV can really open the mind up to a totally different perspective.
