Bath Time

Testing the waters,
she pulls back,
first one then the other
in dismay .
The cries come softly at first,
increasing as the warmth covers
and she is drenched and shivering
dreading what comes next.

Once so pure and white,
she's aged in caring and
playfulness is somehow missing
since he left her here,
alone with me.
But I only count
when it comes to food.
He was her master,
her sexual preference,
always nuzzling and teasing him
with a brush of her body...
and always getting his attention that way.

Can you ever be jealous of a cat..
I use to say he loved her more than me.
Would take the time to caress her,
while I stood waiting for my turn,
if there was one to follow.

But it is I, who is the caretaker now.
And he is the Forgotten One,
and when he makes his appearances,
she snubs him, never even looking up.

This morning she will dislike me,
but as always, when the bath is finished
and she is preened and to my liking,
she will climb into my lap,
forgetting her pain and cuddle close to me,
knowing that today we only have each other.

Maureen,
Can you ever be jealous of a cat..
I don't know but a cat can be jealous of you
and when I left my cat for three day,
She turned her back to me for quite awhile.
Good poem. Enjoyed

Thank you Sy...for the smile and  enjoyment...aren't cats special...they can take you or leave you and forget they were just pushed off furniture and come and rub up against you anyway.

Cats are great. This reminds me of a video I saw once of a cat that was about to go in a bath and screaming NOOO NOOO, and there was  no doubt thats what he was saying. Clear as could be. It was hilarious.
Serves the ex right that his former kitty now knows what a jerk he is.
