the road down to malibu
is a snake with no skin
black flesh soft in the sun
fitting the valley grooves
like a garden hose
of old rubber

men of leather
leave sounds there
from their iron horses
that gallop thunder
and flicker
glint eyed shimmer
in afternoon sun

in evening
coyotes tiptoe the cliffs
hiding from the loud gods
that leave scraps of blood
and bread
in recycle buffets
behind jaguar bumpers
that call their women names

the leathermen bring their thunder
the loud gods grow quiet
they leave their steaks
on plastic alters
in back yards
to protect
second hand virginity
coyotes feast like kings

and howl their thanks to men of leather

primal...a reduction to the earth, that produces sensuality.

Loved it...one of those journey poems..

If no one knew the way to Malibu before, you've set the scene very well...that is exactly how the road looks from the air...

and of course the rest of the poem is a wow...and a good...

DS

Many nights, after the normalcy of day, the coyote's cry turns the alley trash into a hunting ground. Enjoyed your view of Malibu.

I have been to Malibu and it is exactly like this. You have a wonderful way of expressing even the most mundane scenes. You are truly a wordmaster in every sense.

When I read this magnificent description, I knew I'd found a keeper... and the rest of the verses didn't disappoint. *S* I enjoyed this very much.

I hear that if you hold your breath going through the tunnels you might just get your wish.
I believe there is some truth to that, considering the outcome.  You sure know how to weave your words DS~     Good you are.
