It's Where I Left My Heart

I've passed this way before.
I think it's where I left my heart
in foolish thoughts.

Underneath it all, I was lifeless
waiting to sponge up
the first sip that came my way.

I would drink you in small quantities,
building up my taste for you,
savoring each experience,
relishing the next.

At times, you were my hard to swallow,
bringing tears to these eyes,
as I drank the bitter with the sweet.

I breathe a bit easier now,
knowing the reasons behind all,
and cannot be dissuaded
by the masquerading of intent.

I feign happiness,
and the intimate of you,
always wondering why
you have marked me so.

You have hinted me with vagueness
and I have accepted it.
I have confessed my own peculiars
to you in trust.

I feel my uniqueness fading,
my usual becoming less distinct,
losing a bit of my identity to words
of lesser meaning.

I compare to no one,
being worthy only to mineself.
Yet I am as polished
as the shine that reflects.

I am loving to a fault of no return,
so romantically inclined,
that I can't stop leaning towards you,
my only reward, these thoughts.

I cherish you beyond memory,
your picture ever-treasured in my hold.
I've passed this way before...

I think it's where I left my heart
in foolish thoughts.

Maureen darling girl Oh my goodness! This is sooo amazing, the flow of this as always is perfect, the form is utterly divine. It’s a sad piece which you do brilliantly, the ache inside fairly echoes in the hollows of a heart. How do you do that so well? Well whatever you do you write beautifully

Love this I absolutely love it. Utterly utterly perfect

Love and warm stuff

thank you Mark..I have been meaning to come and visit the gallery and/or hear a poet reading..but I have been ill with something  I wasn't sure of, and I was told there is a lot of smoking going on there...now that I am slowly ridding of my cough and know it isn't allergies, I may try to come down sometime soon.*s

Maureen.
p.s. I don't often heed good advice *s
