I'm living in poetic hell!
It matters not how hard I try
I just can't write a villanelle!

I thought that I could do quite well
Since I am such a clever guy...
I'm living in poetic hell!

I sit imprisoned in this cell
My paper blank - my inkwell dry
I just can't write a villanelle!

Frustration makes my fingers swell
As do my eyes from tears I cry..
I'm living in poetic hell!

The words inside my head won't gel
The way they should...don't ask me why!
I just can't write a villanelle!

Oh, God, release me from the spell
Of how this form can mystify..
I'm living in poetic hell!
I just can't write a villanelle!

YAY!!! Ahhhhhh, but you just have! (big hugggsssss) I just love the sense of humor and irony you put into your words, sweet friend, sometimes when we try so hard and would go at any lengths, we are suprised by the magic we can come up with! (smiles) This is a most excellent villanelle, sweet friend, we all love you so much, this is yet another ode from your golden quill! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Michael, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

’Deer hi there, okay so what was that then? Tell me how do you write a villanelle.  Verses of three lines each that rhyme? The first and last line of the first verse becomes the last line in the alternating verses? Until the last verse where they become the last two lines? Have I got that right?

As always whatever you write this is something rather special, I like this I really do. And I get to answer before mum, now that always is an added bonus. You may say it’s not whom answers first that matters, but it does to us There’s a certain kudos in it you see. And it’s fun to play tag on the forum.

Mum I got here before you, and I’m going to try a villanelle, if I have the recipe right? Have I?

Wonderful writing ‘Deer it really is wonderful

You had me scared for a moment, Deer One... I read your first line and thought "ye gads... he's opened one of my poems!" LOL

I enjoyed this much... "can't" should never be part of your poetic vocabulary. *S*

’Deer dearest heart Mmmm? As if is there anything you cannot do? I think the answer to that is No there isn’t anything that you cannot do. Now I definitely cannot do a villanelle, and even Nan’s masterly definition and Masterclass in villanelles hasn’t helped.

This as always is truly fabulous writing, your lines are so beautifully constructed. Do I love this you know? I do it’s utterly utterly perfect.

As for you Krissy my darling daughter, crow all you like darling I am still technically ahead on points Villanelle or no villanelle

I could teach you
I could coach you
all about the Villanelle
my Deer
But they will wonder
And they will ponder
if in my head I was unwell
bit queer
just teasing you
my Dear
For this here Villanelle
You did write it so well

’Deer Melissa is right there should be a multiplicity of replies by now, and why there isn’t I can’t tell, so I’ll bump it too.

Besides it’s a brilliant and perfect example of HOW to write a villanelle, and no I’m not writing another, I only did that one because I was showing mum I was prepared to have a go. She likes being challenged, it keeps her happy

So Bumpity bump to the top you go
