              Shadow Nation

Ransom was paid like a casino tithe
Showers would not cleanse the obscenity
Taxes and indifference rained in filthy puzzles
A foreigner to being leashed -silent and muzzled

Taut as panther haunches, tension's uptilted eyes
watched injections of chaos that befell them
Such was the acrid taste in screams of meat but
they bit of the Fruit of Sorrows and found it sweet

They bought their compassion in worldly donations
Always fighting the shackles of consciousness
A single step away from an amputation of the soul
One by one they lost their sacred mountains whole

And as the rubber room padded silent toward the people
the torment manifested like a vermilion phoenix
when 911 came and burned as a sleepless fire
it fused holey hearts with a penitent desire

     thus awoke with joyful oration
     once more:  the Shadow Nation

Jeff darling boy, this is as always simply perfect. Sometimes when the inspiration twirls me around and spins me into dreams I reach out with my mind and feel you there in that sanctum of my poetic thought. Teasing me to stretch my mind a little more, calling to me to condense and distil that thought into pure drops of liquid inspiration. They fall on my page and I’m off again.

Truly wonderful writing darling heart, absolutely excellent. Deeply meaningful writing as are all of your poems. This especially so I think

So sad that it takes a jolt to awaken a dulled conscience and enrage a spirit that too long slept in complacency. I liked this version. Some of the elements of the first one didn't place the morbidness of complacent morality in the perspective that this did. Good job darlin!

(big hugggssssss) Oh Jeff, this is so very powerful but sad, sweet friend, my heart reaches out to all the victims of this sorrow in America and I wish them the best love and support in this treacherous time! (sigh) We all love you so much, sweet friend, God Bless You! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Jeff, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton
