I Call it Home
By Larry Chadwick

We moved so many times,
Where should I call home?
But grandma she stayed put,
Very seldom did she roam.

We moved from state to state,
Staying five years at a time.
But then we’d up and move,
Just as it felt like it was mine.

Friends were hard to hold,
When we would move away.
And mom would shed her tears,
‘Cause she would rather stay.

And then that day arrived,
It was time for me to go.
I packed my bags and drove away,
So that my own roots could grow.

My friends would often ask,
For they really wanted to know.
Where did you come from,
From here or Kokomo?

I never had an answer,
For home was not one place.
We had moved so very often,
It felt like a disgrace.

One day, just because I could,
I planned a little get away.
Heading north on highway 12,
To my grandma’s house to stay.

So to the ranch they bought in ’42,
Where mom and dad were married,
The old log house of days gone by,
Where water used to be carried.

It was in a chat with grandma,
Concerning where I was from,
That coming north on highway 12,
Was like coming home and then some.

That was thirty years ago,
And today I’ll give the same report.
If you ask me where I’m from,
I’m proud to say it’s Newport!

Washington that is. And I only lived there until I was 10 days old!

Same with me. I call home the little farmhouse we live in now, because that's the place I feel really 'at home'.

Love your poem, I really do

Larry darling boy this is wonderful, you are an absolutely fabulous writer, I love this one, I really do.

Actually I know where you’re from it’s from PIP’s, born a poet and will be a poet all your days.

Larry is from a little place
Not located in time or space
He’s from the place of blue
He’s a poet like me and you
He’s a PIP’s poet don’t you see
Larry this is your poetic family

Titia,
And what peace of mind it provides to finally know where to call home. Thanks.

Mushy,
How cool a poem was that! Just for me and you are absolutely right. My second home...who needs a cabin? Thanks always.

Sy,
Oh good...I'm glad you liked it. Thanks.

Karilea,
I wanna hear the end of that one. It is sounding really good too. Thank you friend.

BRAVO!!! I too know how you feel about moving, sweet friend, it too saddens me to leave so much behind and I feel home is where the heart is, where we all grow up and spread legacies of love between generations under one roof! (smiles) I too love being at my grandparents house, it always feels so comely there! We all love you so much, sweet friend, this is fabulous! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Larry, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

Sandra,
How sad that you feel homeless. And thank you so much for the kind words.

Magnus,
Well...I figured if I didn't have one I could pick one! But we survived.

Lauren,
No apologies required. I'm sure many of us feel that way. I think we're lucky. Thanks.

Noah,
Home may be where the heart is...but it's nice to remember where it came from. Thanks.
