Thank You, Young Poet

You placed your words
like diamond stars
in the twilight sky,
brilliant and glittering
sequins of delight

then strung them
into phrases
like a long Mardi Gras necklace
they floated down
and landed around my desires
wrapping me in
aesthetic pleasures

and there I stood
and still remain
captivated
and captive,
bound by your thougths
so brilliantly rendered

The meaning was kown
but not yet conceived
by my heart
and so I am entraced
by the wonder of your verse
and shall never look at
the night sky
in the same way,
for you have transformed it
into poetry.

Thank you, young poet
for your diamond necklace is now
wrapped around my soul
and will always shine through
the darkness of my eyes
and will guide me to the
gates of heaven

Elizabeth Santos
