SmartChick Sue has been having problems with her
games (particularly POGO)....I told her to bring
her problem into this forum....hopefully she will.

I think a firewall may be interfering with her gaming....

If there is anyone that can assist...please contact her....

That depends on if Microsoft fixed the DirectX problem of SP2.  They put SP2 out with a beta version of DX9c, so you can probably see how that would affect games, cards, and peripherals.

Yes, DX could certainly affect the gaming
portion.  I recommended to her that she might
get some assistance from where she purchased
the computer.  Also thought someone here might
have an idea or two...

She asked me if I knew how to turn off her
firewall.  I can only assume that she has
her windows f/w that comes with SP2.  She
went into Control Panel and turned the
Windows F/W off...but this did not allow her
to restore her gaming capacity.   I am
not the greatest at this....so I put the
ball in this court...thinking that would be
better than me twiddling all three thumbs..

That will bring my help to an end, since I have no experience with XP, preferring 98se for my gaming OS.  Yeah, there's that pesky RAM limitation.  And the issue with harddrives over 32gig.  But those aren't really problems.  Having a really screwed up version of DirextX would be a problem.  A huge one, for video, sound, modem, mice, joysticks...basically everything for audio/video and gaming.  Might be worth a shot to recheck windows update or Microsoft's XP center for a fixed version.  If the computer is a named brand, they will generally have fixes on their websites.

A little snooping reveals that SP2 affected
JAVA...and there is a fix for that.  I
truthfully believe she needs a hands on Geek
to assist in this issue..probably about a
5 minute fix...
