According to microsoft literature DirectX 9 is backwards compatable. While this seems to be the case for the most part, i've noticed it seriously conflicts with rendering or speeds on older video games. I'm not much of a gamer anymore but on occasion I like to load a classic. I'm wondering if anyone has seen this problem and if there's any way to fix it. I know DirectX has never offered an uninstall option so that's out. If there's no way out then i'll leave directX9 off my update list when i reformat.

how "classic" is "classic"?

i went on a "classic" kick a while back and had to find a solution to a similar problem... but the "classics" i was playing with need DOS emulators.

Not that classic, emulators have worked fine. I've tested a few other games this weekend and it's not an issue with all of them. EA Sports games from 2001 below and some LucasArts games like Shadows of the Empire, are impossible to play. So far the rest have proven compatable with the big test being Blade Runner, but that was never that graphically intensive so it shouldn't be a problem. I hope.
