this may be a good time to ask for some critique.
In the meantime I shall continue finishing Part One, but all suggestions are more than welcome.

what's your goal for the page? are you planning on a whole 'site' or just a single page? will you be adding more poems? if so are you going to separate them?

one thing I will suggest and maybe ROn can help with the actual stats here - but I recall distinctly being told that people are not likely or don't want to read long lines of text (what was the length Ron?). you might consider truncating your table a wee bit so that it shortens up the distance of the lines...

very... uhmmm... colorful. definitely appropriate for an inmate.

oh - and one BIG problem... I didn't notice a link to http://countlesshorizons.com !!! heh

C - again.

How odd Ms Devine, on my little 'puter it loads just fine. Could this be one of those Explorer/Netscape errors? Personally I'm using Netscape.

Hmm... Mr C... somehow I get the feeling you did not enter our second home or you may have seen Part Two is very nicely divided into chapters, as Part One will be divided into separate topics... naughty... naughty boy! Yes this will be/already is far more than a single page and since we are not capable of behaving "normal" a new tale will eventually grow to it, with gooey stew and all.
Thank you for your advise on the long lines. I shall adjust them as soon as I have some time.
Oh and I am planning on creating a link page. Are you sure you want your name connected to ours? It would be my pleasure though.

Thank you both very kindly for your help.

Dear Mr. C. I have made some changes on a test page and would appreciate your opinion on the new "design". I only have a 14" monitor and therefore I'm not sure how the page turns out on normal folks computers. Any help would be highly appreciated.

I think it's looking good - the biggest thign still being the length of the lines...

(BTW - I found the second page... a word of 'caution' - it looks like an ad...)

As far as lines across the page,
they say about 10 words to keep
it reader friendly.

You do NOT want to have to scroll
back and forth to be able to read.
That is really annoying.
(though I haven't visited yet)

Just answering Chris' question.

Ok... I did some editing on the home page and even put a "keyword" code in. (Yes I do read the other topics too ) And thank you for the "add look alike" warning Mr. C., I've changed it. I do have a question left though about the length of the lines. Do you mean the length before giving a line break or the amount of words in a sentence?

There aren't any hard and fast rules about the word count in a standard line, because it's going to be different for some topics and certainly different for various font sizes.

Think of it in terms of a newspaper. If you picked up your Sunday paper and the text stretched from the left side of the page all the way to the right side, you would quickly discover how hard on the eyes it is to read long lines of text. That's exactly why the newspaper and most magazines use columns - to help break up those long lines. Web designers have to be a little more creative (moving your eyes to the top of the "next" column is much more difficult on a web page, and it's not considered polite to ask your readers to scroll up-down-up-down to read a single article), but the goal is still the same. Make text easy to read.

Well thank you kindly Mr. Ron. I do comprehend the meaning of "short" lines now. I will leave the introduction page as it is at the moment and wil shorten the lines a wee bit more before the next update, which will hopefully be during the Easter weekend.
