The Mask

I need to write of feathers and wings
Of butterflies and birds that sing
Of gardens green where I can rest
For that is where I do my best.

Oasis of a needed goal
Refuge for my tired soul
A place if must be fantasy
A little bit of ecstasy

A pleasant, a sip of wine
A kiss of lips a touch divine.
A breath of sweet of little treats
A touch that makes a mind reseat

This place is but a seem away
A little bit of dream and play
A walk among the daffodils
A taste of nectar on the frills

Is this too much for me to ask?
To cover up my face this mask

But! If you must write of dank and dreary,
of tired steps and mind that's weary
Where Randy retires to restore his soul
or of endless lands and sea-worn shoals...

where caves of bat are dark and chill
and hand of man carved figures still
where respite is for a hermit's seek
when the will still wants, but finds self weak...

then write those times to see you through;
and your poets will warm your tea and brew...

Even when you rhyme spill your ills ...
your poetry enthrawls and thrills.
It matters not of what light you write ...
be it dawn of day or dark of night.

With every word you wear a versed wisdom's mask ...
what we gain from your task, for no more could we ask.

Sy, an excellent write.  You take rhyme, wit, symbolism and meter to the next level and thus you humble me with your talent.  It's always a pleasure reading you
