A Single Rose
~~~
Prison annex
cold
and bare
Cause of death ... the electric chair
~
The Reaper grips the silent dawn
lingers ...
waning day
Midnight
quaffs the power down
devours
a human prey
~
Merely boy
the youngest man
but sentence squares misdeed
A footstep echoes
whispers chant
a collar's tempts
redeem
~
A single rose
delivered late ...
a letter
from his love
Tears pervade the lost reply
and haunt
the cells above
~
Oh my, Rex - what brought this about?  Such a tragic moment...no matter of the misdeed, but to know something precious was never seen, at the very last...
hoping to see more from you on this beautiful weekend....
Replies are silenced by death.  But often in life too.  We must take the time to reply while we can do so.
A chilling piece, but thought provoking and beautiful.
Oh goodness, what a surprise. I thought I was
going to read a beautiful poem about a rose,
instead I read a very heart-wrenching poem
about a rose. It was still beautiful, though
different than what I expected. I could almost
see that rose lying there on a table or in a
prison cell.
Hugs,
Ethel
"but sentence squares misdeed"
" a collar's temps redeem"
This poem has a haunting quality, can't help but wonder if they did.
..without surrender, be on good terms with all persons..
