Once upon a time…

Stories begin this way

Or used to.

Before they carried us through
Magical transformations
That ended in
A
Happy Ever After

Now…
The ever after seems to fill
Itself with lines repeated
From some syncopated
Symphony that does not lend
Itself or me
To any
Once… not to mention time.

Tell me Brothers Grimm…
Did you write stories of love
Back then?

Blank sheet lies now
Before my pen
And I try out the words
Once
And ever after

Can’t seen to use
Happily

So I avoid its mention
And look instead
At an ending
Of my own
…………………………………..

I have asked a thousand stars above
To answer just one plea
I’ve written words of hope and love
As I searched inside of me

Would there be someone to miss me
If it ended all today
Would there be lips that longed to kiss me
If death’s cruel trick did play

………………………………………..

Sonnets from the Portuguese
Browning, Elizabeth Barrett (1806-1861)

My poet, thou canst touch on all the notes
God set between His After and Before,
And strike up and strike off the general roar
Of the rushing worlds, a melody that floats
In a serene air purely. Antidotes
Of medicated music, answering for
Mankind's forlornest uses, thou canst pour
From thence into their ears. God's will devotes
Thine to such ends, and mine to wait on thine.
How, Dearest, wilt thou have me for most use
A hope, to sing by gladly? or a fine
Sad memory, with thy songs to interfuse?
A shade, in which to sing--of palm or pine?
A grave, on which to rest from singing? . . . Choose

OMGosh, This is the first writing of yours I've ever read that I have to bite my tongue to not say what I really think.

I can say this whole writing is an illusion....for me....

I can say I am so glad I that learned long ago who God is, and who he is not.

Thank you for this...it reconfirms, on a very personal, deep level, who I am...where I've been and how far I've come....

May we all continue to grow and find our own truths in our own time.

Hugs, Pat

Wonderful collection of verses and I love your ponderings in the first part, they are worded masterfully and captivatingly!

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.

Capt, Ron, I am so happy that you
got to sneak away to leave us your
words for us to ponder over today.
Your poems always make me think, and
I like that.
Hope you have a good day, Capt.
Heart Hugs,
Ethel

So much truth in your perspective of love and loneliness, and what lies in the hereafter.

You are a true poet Cpat~

'Tell me Brothers Grimm…
Did you write stories of love

and

'I have asked a thousand stars above

Would there be someone to miss me
If it ended all today
Would there be lips that longed to kiss me

Fairy tales, beginnings, endings...and that wonderful nonsense we call love on the pages in between.  May the stars hear your plea...
