there is a house, over there,
on the hill.
It calls out my name,
asking me to come and mend the crroked shutters.
asking me to stay a while,
and breath life into its dry, still timbers.

when I make my timid approach
I hear music and laughter.
I smell fresh bread baking,
and I sense the caution with which
the children step,
so as not to disturb the cake
baking along side the bread;
whose scent becomes drowned-out,
obscured by the hurried activity...

as I reach the house, I can see
images trapped in the cracks
that abound here.
I know the stories that were told here;
a gift of the house.
there is something else,
of considerable urgency.
i can't make it out -
and then I avert my eyes
and notice there is a crack in this mirror in front of me.
