last night I dreamt
that I robbed 75,000 dollars
from some gentleman who were
stupid enough to leave it in my trust
even if it was only
for 10 minutes
in that time
I was in a cab
and on route to my apartment
to grab my passport and a few other
things I would need
saying a quick goodbye
to everything else
I'd ever known
a couple hours later
I was on a train to Santa Fe
and from there
a bus to El Paso
On the second day
I crossed over into Juarez
Mexico
and chased whores and tequila
for 4 nights
on the fifth
I got myself together
and started for Mexico City
once I got there
it was easy enough
amongst the human rubble
to lie low for a couple weeks
while I figured out what I was doing

I bought a ticket for Bangkok
having made the trip before
knowing that in Cambodia
I could live a very comfortable life
maybe I would even work
teaching english
to pass the time
Id live on Boeung Kak lake
where in the morning
the vegetation rolls in
and by nightfall
has disappeared like the sun
I would drink mekong whisky
do Ketamin
and have a different young woman
every night
I would die peacefully
with no CNN
ringing in my head
no fashion billboards
blocking my view
no shameful feeling
about the country or people
I had abandoned
..they all had abandoned me
  long before

After 16 days in Cuidad de Mexico
I grabbed my things
and made for the airport
a short distance from where I got in
the cab turned down an alley
and two men
got in
the gentleman on the left
stabbed me
twice
piercing a lung
on both occasions
took the wallet
my mother had given me
and pitched me
onto the filth of the alley
the door slammed shut
and they pulled away
I lie there
with seventy three thousand dollars
around my waist
soaking up blood
waiting
for a short while
until the kaleidoscope of my world
passed into darkness

yeah its not alot, but desperate measures for desperate souls, besides, that money could last 10 or 15 years in Cambodia, longer if I wouldve done the teaching, you can get by very nicely on 10-15 dollars a day. Im actually very proud of this one, sometimes you nail it just the way you envisioned it and sometimes even surpass that

hold out for a cool million next time,
you're worth every penny and then some

that dream ending chilled my bones
