when Im on the lower levels of the bottle
I sometimes slouch at my desk
and call to mind
all the beautiful women
that I have loved
and of the few
who even saw fit
to love me back
I draw their faces
on a canvas, lying in the shade
and it is in the movements
of creation
not the dry final ink
that I find a pillow
and outlast candlelight

in these moments
nothing here really changes
but for a moment
things stay the same
as they once were
