Sighing between dreams
my breath purrs in the toss and turn
stepping lightly down the stairs
without tripping over.

Willing myself to hold on
cluttered thoughts
stacked to the side
collecting in the darkness.

Stained by the backwards climb
up and down in the middle
worn into the carpet
night walks lightly on tip toes.

Where stillness resides
in that waking hour
when sleep escapes my eyes
empty sounds echo on hard tiles.

The ice maker hums
crushing and cold
the fish tank bubbles
my heart stirs restlessly.

Keeping me company in the silence.

(big hugggsssss) Oh Lori, this is painfully detailed, sweet friend, even when we have company it can still feel petrifying when clocks tock but there is no breathing, I too know this feeling, I send many hugs your way, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Lori, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

Lori,
That'll change. Excellent write.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

Lori,

There is a balance in your poetry which I dearly enjoy. You've manage to capture many of my moments.

Lori, when the silence is there, every sound seems to roar, doesn't it? I've known this.

When the quiet overcomes you..
every noise seems so much louder.
Well done.

BluesBabe,
I saw the balance...it was that alone thing.

I could do without the crushed ice but I love the bubbles and the light that glows in my fish tank.  I'm telling you, that's all there is in the middle of the night.
Just me and my blanky wrapped up in the sound of silence.

Thank you, thank you everyone!!

Well bluesy, add to this two dogs snoring....and it's a night here in the shack.

Actually, this is nicely lonely...If there is such a thing. I hear these echoes

~Nicely lonely~
That's an inspiring thought~
I think there is such a thing, like the bubbles that burst...we learn to filter through them.

Thanks wranx~

funny at times that silence in and of itself can bea comfort... the absence of an antogonist can lead to a silence that somforts as well as scares..

well written..as usual.

I used to love the sound of an aquarium at night.  Now it's mostly just the hum of the frig.  Sometimes, I sleep with the TV on the cartoon channel.....makes for funny dreams!!!

Me thinks it's in the silence of the night that one best hears, best listens to ones self, to the beat of ones pulse, to the sound of ones breath, to the silence inside
where all ones secrets reside. And it's in the silence of the night that one meets
one’s best friends, the crowd that lives inside – the happy, the sad, mad, wild,
witty, shy, spontaneous, outlandish, wonderfully beautiful and enigmatic
entities of . . . Self.    Truly it's in the silence you’ve described that one can
truly be alone – yet kept company by a crowd.

Cool write, my friend.
